Guest guest
Vicky, could you spilt the vanilla bean and gently heat it in oil, maybe several times? Hugs, (TX) who hasn't done CP or HP but wants to get brave enough too and loves the vanilla scent!

Guest guest
Hi Vicky - What a great idea! Yes, let me know what happens, and meanwhile I think I might try the same thing. We'll compare results. Joi
Guest guest
Vicky, I can not remember what I read about using food grade pure vanilla extract. It was some time ago. Seems to have stuck in my mind not to use it. I do know I read it will turn your soap dark brown. Suppose you could add some titanium dioxide back to it. Even while pure vanilla extract is pure it does contain the alcohol and I think you may be right about the alcohol. That is why I only buy FO's from reputable dealers whom have tested their oils because FO's are a synthetic and can seize up your soap. Something to keep in mind is you can use just about anything in HP and never seize a batch. By the time you put in your additive you have nothing but pure soap you are working with. Guest guest
, I'm sure you could. I have a recipe for making vanilla extract by soaking the beans in vodka for about 6 week. I don't see why you couldn't make an infusion out of oil and vanilla beans though. I would probably heat the oil a little, not real hot, and let the beans soak for several hours in the warm oil, then let those same beans sit in the oil for several days, shaking each day; and repeat that process with new beans until the scent was really strong. That's just a suggestion though, since I have never done it before. You could try this, while I am doing the extract and we could share the results with each other when they are through. I'd be curious enough to try it myself, but I don't have any vanilla beans. As far as the soap goes, You can do it ! Just jump right in! I just read Kathy s Soap Site, and a site about HP, and jumped right in. I made a small CP batch of Goats Milk Soap, but was to excited to have to wait 6 weeks, so I made up a recipe for HP with some oils I could get at the grocery store, ran it through MMS Lye Calculator and wah la --- Soap! Both batches turned out great! I gave soap to everyone I knew, so I could make more soap. They all loved it. Sooooo, if I could do it, YOU CAN DO IT! I dont do anything except HP, in fact, I call it cooked soap because that is what we have always done.......cook it. I personally, have not had a batch sieze on me but a friend down in TN recently had one do it to her. She does CPHP, same thing just a crockpot where I put mine on top of the stove. Point is, HP can sieze, you just dont hear of it as often as you do with CP. I think the reason for this is most people on this list and others mostly do CP. Guest guest
I would be interested in knowing what would cause an HP batch to seize so I don't so it. Thanks, SD Re: Re: Vanilla extract..? > In a message dated 4/14/2002 10:18:19 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > fiveftnutn@... writes: > > > > Something to keep in mind is you can use just about anything in HP and never > > seize a batch > > Well, I dont think this is exactly correct. The soap is fine...no stinging or burning......smell didn't last long tho. Maybe it was Cut somehow.
