I like the natural color and goes on and feels wonderful. I use flavor oils, since they are edible, but color is not necessary to me. Have fun on your ventures! Guest guest
Why don't you use a drop of food coloring. The liquid kind should give you a pale green. The paste kind will give a stronger color. Guest guest
Use caution here please. You can't use regular food coloring as it is water based and will bead and sink to the bottom of your bowl. Use candy coloring instead as it is oil based. I take a toothpick and dip it in the color then swirl it in your lip balm mix. You don't need too much coloring. Hope this helps. Guest guest
do you add the coloring when the balm is cooling?
Guest guest
Yep....water based colors...Sink to the Bottom or float to the Top. You could use...a light colored Lip Stick to give it a little color. I've seen Green Lip sticks in Walmart....LOL Or leave it Natural. Chocolate Chip Lip Balm has a Tan color to it. Guest guest
Liquid food coloring does not emulsify in oils. It beads up and does not give the balm any coloring at all. (I've tried it.) Guest guest
I use Micas in my lip balms and unfortunately the shimmer usually fades out after they harden. My problem is I want it to shimmer and it doesn't last. So you should be ok using the mica, cuz I doubt it'll stay put. ----- The trouble I'm having is color--the only lip-safe products I've been able to find are micas. I don't think he'd like the shimmer effect (and I think it'd be really odd to see on a guy with a full beard). Get more from the Web. Guest guest
I believe you can use some oxides. My local supplier did some research for me, the natural oxides, untreated by chemicals (red, yellow) are FDA approved (i'm pretty sure). I'm not sure about green though, but I doubt it. I got green the first time I made lip balm by using extra virgin olive oil, It didn't really work well with strawberry though . I know I've seen lip balm colourants in craft stores, although I'm sure they aren't natural. >From: " Kat " <theskyes@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Re: Lip balm colorants >Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 21:18:29 -0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) > >hmm not sure if this would work but how about some chlorophyll? > >Blessings be, >Kat > > > > >-- Lip balm colorants > >Hi, >My fiance wants me to try to make him some mint lip balm.
