Guest guest
Wonderful ideas, Donna! I spent 14 plus years caring for several of my elderly relatives until their passing, you're right on about their declining ability to take baths, yet they NEED something more than just getting clean~ your ideas are great for nourishing the soul AND cleaning the bodies;^) How about foot soaks for baskets? I found someone that marketed broken bath fizzies in cello bags as " Fruit Chunks " .....and a foot bath wouldn't take very much to be fun and effective. Also, hydrosols in a spray bottle would give them something nice smelling, good for the skin and not slippery to use~lavender is always good, would be perfect misted on after bathing, or as an in-between bath freshener......peppermint would be great for misting feet.....I bet Marge has a bunch on her site one could check out;^) You could make a small bath scrunchie to place in the bottom of a nice dish to use as a soap dish, then as the soap drips and dries, take the scrunchie out and lather up with the leavings......maybe soft terry bath mitts? I wonder about powder puff " wands " - Grandma always enjoyed using her powder puff, and a wand would enable a not so flexible person to reach all those hard to reach spots. How about some great balm or heavy lotion for dry, cracked feet and hands, and a pair of very soft, heavy socks or cotton gloves for an overnight treatment? This would be something to carefully consider, as feet might stay slick, and pose a risk of falling, but for someone that has help available, or is bedfast, might be nice for them. I remember how terribly dry and sore their extremities would get:^( My, time has slipped away and no work getting done here.....Good luck to who ever is making these baskets, those receiving them will be very blessed, indeed. Guest guest
Hi Sage! I use melt and pour. The rose petals I use ones either bought in a bunch at Wal-Mart and cut apart or buy the wedding petals again at Wal-Mart or Big Lots. I dip them in the M & P and let them drip a little and then place them on wax paper to dry. I have tried a rack, but that didn't work for me. I use clear soap unless I have a request for a petal and I don't have that color, I then color the soap. The pouf's are the mini ones you buy 4 for $1.00 at Dollar Tree. I put them in a flexible muffin pan mold I have, you can use anything that will mold around the pouf. I have found they pop out of this mold so easy. I then pour around the edge of the pouf until the soap is half way up the pouf. I sometimes drizzle a little on the top. It usually uses about 4 ounces of soap. I have only rebatched once. I will have to try that again, I had a disaster. Haven't tried to make soap from scratch. Chicken I guess. Donna What a great bunch of ideas!! Guest guest
Hi, For the rose petals, you would use silk rose petals. Make sure though that when they are used you either throw them in a basket or get recycled. These are not good for the drain. :9) Debbie~ silverstoli@... wrote: >In a message dated 4/5/02 1:47:02 PM Central Standard Time, Yaaruln@... >writes: > > >> Hi this is a silly question, but I would really like to make the rose soap >> > petals for Mom for Mother's Day, are you using real rose petals or silks? >> >> > TIA >> > >> > Hugs, >> > >> > >> > >> >> Good question ! Guest guest
/Tia, you use silk rose petals and dip them into scented m & p, lay them on waxed paper to dry, then put them into your container. I took apart whole silk petals as the colors were nicer than the pkgs. of " wedding " silk petals which are a little on the rough side and very limited in color. Don't dip the petals more than once, you only want to use the petals once (although they are really good for two or three handwashings if for yourself) but are intended to be disposable for guests. Guest guest
WOW! Those ideas sound WONDERFUL!!!! It makes me want to try M & P again! LOL I tried M & P and it was a DISASTER!!!! I have no idea what I could have done wrong, but they never hardened the FO leeched out and well it was ugly... :-D I haven't tried it since... but I seen to have no problem doing CP... I personally think that my experiences should have been the opposite. I've always been weird though, why should my soaping be normal? ;-) I will have to try these, I think my mom would LOVE it! Guest guest
I thought it was ~real~ petals and thought how nice that the rose aroma from the petal would come into the soap. Guess I was wrong--could it be done that way? Guest guest
Unfortunately not , the real rose petals would turn black, go mushy and start to stink! Guest guest
I have heard of people making the real rose petals after they are dried. You need to know where your roses came from, do they have pesticides on them. I have always been told to stay away from ones at the floral shop as you don't know what they have on them.
