Guest guest
Yes Cat, I recognise loads of recipes on the site.... lots of them come from soap websites.... looks like someone has just been trolling the net for recipes to sell! > I went to the site...does anyone else recognize recipes (as well as recipes > from several books and other websites) they have posted to these lists over > the years? Guest guest
For instance, the Creme de la Creme recipe (if it is indeed the same) was posted in the Toiletries Library by Kathy Tarbox, and the " Erotic Massage Oils " are a direct rip-off from Chrissie Wildwood's book " Erotic Aromatherapy " . Not only is it spam of the worst kind, but it is plagarization and violation of Copyright, since she is selling these recipes for profit! > Yes Cat, I recognise loads of recipes on the site.... lots of them > come from soap websites.... looks like someone has just been trolling > the net for recipes to sell! Yet, from the sounds of many of the recipes she has reproduced them from other sources. There are recipes listed that sound just like some the ones in Janice 's books, many sound just like Cat's recipes and blends and many sound like recipes from either this library or the soapnuts library. I wonder if the person selling the recipes received permission from the original authors. Any ideas???? lynn in valencia lavender bluffs bath and body " A little touch of heaven in your bath "

I think the " author " of the book is hoping that the majority of us will either buy the book or just ignore the plagerism issue. The inherent problem in this situation is that more and more recipes that have been formulated by someone are showing up on other people's websites. Before anyone gets mad or starts flaming me, let me clarify a few things that I mean about that. In the last month there have been postings from two seperate posters on the various toiletry and soap lists, advertising their new websites with recipes that they themselves have purported to create and that are listed for everyone to come take a look at and try. The only problem: on both sites were numerous recipes and scent blends from Cat that were copied word for word from this list or from this list's library. No credit was given to Cat and no one, to my knowledge, asked Cat for her permission. I asked Cat about this and she confirmed that no one had approached her asking for her permission. She is a good friend of mine and I hate to see her ripped off this way. How long are we as a community going to sit by and let other people take credit and benefit financially from recipes that do not belong to them? At some point, don't we have a responsibility to email the offending parties and let them know that we know and that we are telling others as well? Don't Cat, Janice and the numerous pioneeers of scent blending and handcrafting recipes deserve our support? When did plagerism become okay? lynn in valencia lavender bluffs bath and body " A little touch of heaven in your bath "
Guest guest
I bought all of the recipes for a total of $55 off E-Bay. The recipes are free, I'm only charging the time I spent putting the recipes together and formatting, etc., etc. Besides, I know the people that buy them from me will resell them themselves. Guest guest
Regardless of the source, the recipes from this list were shared at no charge with other list-members. I am curious, what was your purpose in joining this list? To freely share recipes and ideas pertaining to toiletries or to palagiarize more of them for profit? > I bought all of the recipes for a total of $55 off E-Bay. Guest guest
Copying other's original recipes without giving them credit is not good. However, We are all doing some sort of copying of each other's products so one shouldn't throw stones. Please don't take this wrong but last year I posted the directions for doing hand dipped individual rose petals which I credited to the author of the book from which I took it. Then shortly thereafter, one of our members gave the same idea to another member and put them in a wine glass which is how the book showed them originally. Then that person made them blah, blah. So what I am saying is if the recipe is made public knowledge by putting it on the internet then I believe that it is meant to to be shared. I have never put anything out there that I didn't want others to use. I do believe you should give credit to the author if it is from a book as I believe it helps to promote that book. If a recipe is truly secret, then it should not be shared. Simple way to handle it, no feathers ruffled. If you want to keep it secret, keep it secret, you don't publish it in books, you don't post it, etc. Let's not go here again, we just spent nearly a week on it a while back and its been beat to death. Let's just all use good judgement, give credit where credit is due and be honest. Carol A2

Guest guest
Cat, As far as the Creme da la creme blend is concerned, that was created by Steph at The Sage. You will find it on their website. I do not know who Kathy Tarbox is but I do not believe she created it, at least not the same version as Steph. She merely found something exciting and shared it just as everyone on this forum is doing. I do not know what the copyright laws are and that is definitely a whole other topic but unless a name is copywritten as well, I'll bet no laws are broken by using the same name. May not be the same formulation as a copywritten recipe. Only an attorney who specializes in copyrights would know if it is legal for this company to be making a profit off of recipes that probably did come from other web sites. But again, they may have changed one ingredient, just as everyone else in their home based business is doing who is then selling their products. Actually, if not for the fact that I do a lot of research and probably have gotten most of the recipes offered for free off the web, I just might be interested in the 705 recipe deal. I suspect that if copyright laws are being broken it will be investigated thoroughly by the parties involved who created these recipes in question. You are kind to worry about the others. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
I must say in everyone's defense, this: It is true you are only charging $20.00 for this list of recipes that you paid $55.00 for. So what you must be saying is that once you have sold 2 3/4 orders you will stop selling the recipes. Because anymore then that and you WILL be making a profit. Anything above your original $55 will be profit to report to the IRS. Obviously your plan was to make a profit, and I can't blame you for that but as to whether or not you are breaking any laws is not for me to say. I am not a professional in the law field. I don't even like golf. SD Re: OVER 705 BATH AND BEAUTY RECIPES > I bought all of the recipes for a total of $55 off E-Bay. Guest guest
<<Copying other's original recipes without giving them credit is not good. However, We are all doing some sort of copying of each other's products so one shouldn't throw stones.>> Carol and others, There is a difference between sharing recipes on a list the way that many people do and taking credit and profiting from some one else's hard work. There is a difference between selling a product and selling someone else's recipe as your own. Cat is especially kind about sharing her scent and recipe blends with all of us. There are many of us out here that will make the blend and use it for different products. I don't have a problem with that because she has willingly and gladly given us her permission to do so. Where I have the problem is someone selling the recipe for profit without acknowledging her or asking her permission or even offering her part of the profits. I know this issue has been dealt with recently but I have a strong opinion on this and want to be on the record as saying that ripping people like Cat, Janice , Steph at the Sage and others off for someone's own profit this way is wrong. If we ignore this issue and don't take a stand on it when it arises in our midst (no matter if it was only discussed a few weeks ago) then by being silent and not addressing it, we are saying that this type of profiteering is okay. I don't feel it is okay and I hope many others out there feel the same way. I am not trying to stir any bad blood up here. I am trying to be as concise as I can about why I feel this is wrong. Guest guest
The following I copied and pasted from the website selling these recipes. Some people have no scruples. She reproduced what was shared by others, is selling at a huge profit, considering she did none of the work to prove the recipes and expects others to NOT REPRODUCE.......as if she has copyrights to them. Go figure. ~*For personal use only. You agree not to reproduce.
