Guest guest
(Dear Dr. B I sure don't get it what is positive to tell yourself for 21 days you have problems? Fondly Betsy) Betsy, that is a very good question, let me give you a brief explanation. Throughout all of humanity and recognized by all forms of psychology is a condition referred to as a phobia. This is an irrational reaction to a fear of something. An easy example is someone afraid of elevators, they can't get in or sometimes even approach an elevator without an anxiety attack. The average person says to themselves, 'it's only an elevator, relax', gets in the elevator without incident. The phobic person also tells themselves, (through self speak), to 'relax it's only an elevator'. Yet their brain responds to this inner statement as a lie and believes the exact opposite to be true. In other words, 'be afraid or be very afraid', thus the aniexty reaction to the phobia of elevators. This condition in EFT is called psychological reversal. Since all thoughts in the brain are electro-chemical, and all emotional responses are also electro-chemical (glandular chemical not just synoptic), you may use the EFT technique to affect these negative reactions. The foundations of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is the energy principle of acupuncture. All acupuncture meridians end at the finger-tips of both hands. The right hand is the outgoing energy, and with the fingers bunched and tapping the left hand along the pinky, (incoming energy of the heart meridian), while also making a conscious mental statement about the issue, (phobia, problem, anxiety, whatever you want to call it), you are affecting the electro-chemical negative reaction with all of the memories that have to do with this issue. The unique thing about EFT is it does not matter what is causing the negative response, it only matters to change or stop the negative response. EFT does not use counseling to discover, and then reframe, the hidden memories that produce the anxiety responses. This may take years to uncover or not at all. Leave this to licensed counselors to discover. EFT only wants to change the negative electro-chemical glandular responses from all of the memories that have to do with each issue, to a positive normal response. Between the problems that you have, and the problems that you Still have, you are covering ALL problems that have to do with this issue. You are affecting all memories in a positive way that have to do with the issue, without having to be aware or know what that memory is. It does not matter, it only matters to stop the negative response!. The tapping of the left hand along the pinky is the distal point for the heart and tapping above the heart directly is the proximal point to the heart. So what you are doing is thinking about the issue (bringing up the memories) while tapping energy points. Doing this for 21 days in a row is the length of time it takes to change a negative habit to a positive. Very effective technique to get rid of psychological reversal. Have used it for years with great success and have only needed the other points and techniques of EFT for only 20% or less. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Betsy. Dr. BJ addressed this pretty in depth, but I will just say a few words too. I really understand the belief that what you say is what you get and so you want to speak life over yourself. As the Bible says, " life and death are in the power of the tongue " . On the other hand I have found in my life that often the way to get free of a negative is to acknowledge it instead of ignoring it or resisting it or " making positive statements " that I hope will reverse it. There is something powerful about surrender. But it is a tricky subject. The trick is to know when to surrender and when to resist. Those who resist and win will go out and teach the doctrine of resisting to win. Those who let go and win will go out and teach the doctrine of letting go to win. Both are right. The truth is that in ones lifetime there will be times when it is appropriate to hang on and times it is appropriate to let go. I have had success with both doctrines, at different times. With EFT I also was a little dubious about the wisdom of speaking over myself what seemed a negative statement. But in reality I have found it to be profoundly effective and freeing from the negative. Instead of further cementing the problem in me I find it releases it from me. Here is just one physical example. I was having some pain in my left breast for a few days. Really achey and sore. And the nipple REALLY hurt. Of course the logic goes, well I need to get my hormones balanced. Too much testosterone or??? But then I remembered EFT and thought, " maybe not. " So I did a really simpe phrase. Even tho my left breast hurts I deeply and completely love and accept myself. I did one round and the pain was 97% gone and within a half hour it was totally gone and hasn't returned since. (It had been hurting for about three days at the time I did the EFT). I know from past experience that I could have confessed that I was free of pain for days on end without success. I really do not understand how this whole thing works. But I have been doing it daily for around a month and I find it profound on a daily basis. I recently helped a woman with severe cancer who told me her fear level was a seven on a scale of 0-10, ten being the worst. We did one round of " Even tho I am afraid of dying, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. " Before we could get through the whole sequence I could tell it was working. She went from sounding kind of edgy to sounding like she just took a tranquilizer. She said she felt like she was in a baby trance. Whatever that means. And she said she just couldn't connect with the fear. I have chatted with her many times since then and the fear has not returned. Someone else might have tried to give her a pep talk or told her to just resist it or think positive or, or, or. But my experience has been that, that stuff doesn't work very well. But tapping accupressure points while focusing on the issue just makes it vaporize almost 100% of the time. It is really quite remarkable. I helped a friend of mine who was unable to use a public restroom if someone else was in the room. She has had this problem since she was a child. She is 57 now. She just got a new job and does not have her own bathroom. And she was quite frustrated because if she can't go to the bathroom she starts to not feel well and yet she just can't do it if someone is in the other stall or at the sink, etc. She has tried and tried, over the years. to positive talk herself out of this problem and into freedom without success. We did one round of EFT for even tho I am unable to go to the bathroom if someone else is in the room. . etc. And now she is able to urinate and deficate. She is amazed. As I said, I don't fully understand this, but it works. And it seems to work better than a positive statement. I have tried it with varioius positive statements and find it less effective. No clue why. Blessings Donna http://www.excellentthings.com deargosh56@... wrote: > Dear Dr. B I sure don't get it what is positive to tell yourself for > 21 days you have problems? Guest guest
Hi there -- That was an excellent explanation of EFT. I have been interested in it for a little while now, and have been experimenting with it off and on with some good results. I do find that the common perception of 'forgetting' what it did for you or that you really ever had the problem that it helped to resolve is true, and thus I sometimes don't think to turn to EFT when I should. I'm really curious about the statement below, and wondering if you could help shed some light on where the idea of 21 days, specifically, originates. I don't doubt it, I would just love to know the rationalle behind the number. Thanks! >(bringing up the memories) while tapping energy points. Guest guest
I recommend that people keep a log of everything they tap for because when it vaporizes you can literally forget that it was ever an issue. So a log helps you to remember that it does help and it also is a good reference material for helping others. As far as the 21 day thing goes. I don't see the point for issues that are emotional. Since EFT gets rid of them instantaneously I don't see the point in continuing on for 21 days. But that is with basic stuff. In some situations like depression, you might need to tap daily for six weeks or so to get results. For some it lifts with one round. For others, perisistence is what works. And for physical issues, sometimes persistence is what gets it done. The bottom line is try it and if it goes away immediately, great. If not, then continue on till it is gone, which might take more than 21 days, depending on what it is. MS, for instance, might take months. But so what. You know. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I know I often eat to calm down from feelings like loneliness or anger. I made plans what to do instead, but if I was standing in my kitchen, my brain was totally empty, I stuffed things in my mouth and only afterwards I remembered my brilliant plans. I was devasteted. So I searched in this group and found an old message about EFT. I watched some mytube videos from a woman called Aila (?) and Craig and other people and read hundreds of comments about it. I personally don't like Chinese Medicin (f.e. they kill tigers rhinos...) and and don't believe in meridians, so I didn't like to do this and thought it's just a sort of distraction. Then I thought, that you often tap children and adults on the back or shoulder, when they are crying or nervous. So next time in the kitchen I tapped on my chest and shoulders and it worked! It released the tension in my body, so that I could leave my kitchen and then remerbered my other strategies. I'm doing this for some days now and I feel very well. Be blessed > > Has anyone tried Craig's EFT? Guest guest
Hello, Bonnie and others, I actually practice EFT quite regularly. I originally learned about it as a clearing method for the Law of Attraction, as a way to align what I want consciously with what my unconscious mind wants or thinks I deserve. I've been working with an EFT coach (he's also my boyfriend---full disclosure), and we've worked on so many issues, from childhood traumas to creating the life I want now. I'm generally a happy and positive person, but I feel like we always have opportunities to grow and learn. Alan uses a style of EFT that is combined with NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). He studied under G. (whose videos you can also find on youtube). It helps me to challenge the belief systems I've grown up with and held on to, and to release negative emotions associated with those beliefs. A belief is just a thought we repeat to ourselves over and over again, to the point that we make it our truth. EFT helps me to release the beliefs I don't want (i.e. " I've always been told that I'm the fat one, so it must be true. " ) and to adopt the ones I do want ( " I can be healthy, active, joyful, and grateful. " ). What's great about this particular method is I'm constantly checking in with myself as I tap. Is the emotion still there? How would I rate in on a scale of 0-10, 10 being the strongest? As I tap, I try to bring the issue up, try to bring the emotion up, but it has less and less of a grip on me. I do this until the negative feeling is completely collapsed. It's fine to feel what we feel on this journey. We're human. But EFT helps me release those emotions when they are no longer necessary or helpful to me. The root of it all is " I DEEPLY AND COMPLETELY LOVE AND ACCEPT MYSELF. " Then, you release and let go and find peace. I encourage everyone to give it a try. What harm can a little tapping and self-love do? I was a little hesitant to work with a coach that was also my boyfriend (not wanting to seem vulnerable as all these negative emotions came up), but having that outside eye to guide me is so helpful. He is supportive and compassionate and helps me to stay focused on all the wonderful things I have in my life. I remember talking about how she practices on her own, but finds it also makes a huge difference to practice with someone who can guide her. I feel so amazingly blessed on this journey. Love and light to you all! Melody > > > > Has anyone tried Craig's EFT? Guest guest
Hi Melody, Thanks for the input. So far, the little I do seems to work for me and I really want to use it as a tool. I'm not familiar with NLP although I hear many EFT people talking about it. I really think releasing those limiting beliefs is the key! I find that I feel good about myself but when I get around family, I become this fat, clumsy, useless 12 year old girl again and I want to teach them that I am not that anymore. Bonnie Thoughts become things. Choose the good ones. On May 30, 2009, at 12:49 PM, Melody Butiu wrote: > Hello, Bonnie and others, > > I actually practice EFT quite regularly. Guest guest
The statements sound good to me, as far as dealing with your current situation. But you seem to feel like there's still more emotion to release? I'm not sure why, but I get the feeling that these current situations are reflections of past situations you've been in. So you're addressing the current hostile environment, or the current authority figure/peers trying to keep you down... but you're not treating the " echoes " of previous situations where you've felt similar emotions. What happens if you take out " work " ? And/or make the statements past tense? Even though I felt like I was stuck in a hostile environment (like growing up with a depressive mother?) Guest guest
Right on, ! I just read your message and have to say, your observation is as astute as usual... Yes, part of the reason I think there are still more negative emotions to release is that I have been in similar situations (at least emotionally) before. I am going to tap on these tonight and take out " work " and see what happens!
