RE: TERMINATION OF DR. VERN SABOE AS LOBBYIST

Hello Fellow Chiropractic Physicians:

I was SHOCKED to learn that Dr. Vern Saboe has been terminated as our lobbyist. Vern has done so much for us, and achieved so much on the behalf of the chiropractic profession. He has personally helped chiropractic in such a positive way lobbying for us at the state capitol over the past many years and has actually helped pass pro-chiropractic bills. To terminate Dr. Saboe's position as our lobbyist is a BIG MISTAKE!!!

Dr. Saboe has a proven track record being our lobbyist. He is well known at the capitol. I as a member of the association request that Dr. Vern Saboe be immediately re-hired as our lobbyist.

If there is anyone out there that does agree with me, please write letters to the association board, or post your message on this website.

Thank you all.

Dear Oregon DCs,

Is there anyone on this forum who agrees with this

action??? Seems like a circle the wagons and shoot toward the middle

tactic. The period of Vern’s service as lobbyist has been marked by what

has seemed to me to be the most positive and productive relationship of the

profession to our legislature that I recall. For those who recall

previous lobbyists the comparison of their involvement with the field to Vern’s

continuous posts and updates and cheerleading, day in and day out is

telling. It is curious why this should have happened in the first

place. Who is pissed about what and at whom? What’s the background

story here? How is the OCA in a better position without Vern than with

him as lobbyist?

Who terminated Vern, the association? That is a BIG MISTAKE and I agree! Unless he quit I believe the association is looking out for who? Who is going to take his place? Who do we need to write to EXACTLY to show our dis-satisfaction? WHY DID HE GET TERMINATED WHICH IS NOT DIFFERENT THEN BEGIN FIRED, WHY AND FOR WHAT REASON?

I have been a member of the state association since I was licensed nearly 8 years ago, and this is the worst decision and most embarrassing thing they have done. All of the progress that has been made over the years is now in jeopardy. I am truly disgusted by this action and we all need to seriously consider making a change to the board. Elliot and list,      I learned of Vern's termination from Vern's own lips on Friday evening during a brief phone conversation with him.  Apparently Vern was notified by Fax and a letter(or e-mail)  from the OCA that his contract would be terminated and that he no longer was to refer to himself as a representative of the OCA.  I was at first disbelieving but I quickly realized that Vern was deadly serious.

This is not a test.  This is not a bad dream.    This will be a test of the strength of our young state association.  We as a profession cannot turn away one of our  finest advocates at the  state legislature-not to mention a staunch- faithful friend to many in our Oregon Chiropractic Community.

I'll pull my dues...and never attend another OCA function as long as I am in practice. I'd rather pay my "dues" directly to VERN each month, so that he can "continue the good fight."

Personally, I REFUSE to support what I fear has become another corrupt, self-serving, undermining organization, such as we had in the late '80's to 1990, when SB 1197 was perpetrated against us (with assistance members from both our Board AND our state association).

I think we also need to encourage the current "Affiliates" who financially support the OCA to WITHDRAW their financial support and also directly support Vern as a "private lobbyist" to "field practitioners" so that he can continue to represent US, as he has these past several years...

We should just simply by-pass the OCA, and keep Vern on the job... (:-)

The story would seem to be that the Exec Board wants an untried, young, non-DC woman to market oregon DCs. How that supersedes what is being gained by Dr. Saboe's brilliant efforts and focused time is so beyond me ...

Dear Colleagues,I have the same questions as Les does. It seems this type of decision should be put to the general membership, not just made by a select few. I suspect the vote would be overwhelmingly in favor of retaining Vern. I cannot see how not having Vern as our lobbyist would serve us. It seems like a death knell for our profession in Oregon.A public explanation to ALL Oregon DCs, via this list serve seems appropriate.

The general membership vote was already done before Vern's termination!

There was a general membership meeting attended better than any within the last 3 years but the interim board has chosen to overrule the decision of the 75+ members in attendance. A specific vote from a motion that was seconded was that the 'current board make NO decision on lobbyist contracts and no change in their current status until a new board could be formulated.'

My bylaws read that this is binding on the association and hence this board. General membership meetings carry more validity than secret meetings of the board. I think the loophole being used by this board is being used for their best interest rather than the betterment of the Association or the profession as a whole.

I have nothing against competing interests within a democratic format. There are two viewpoints represented here but when vested interests compromise the process it begins to look like democracy misused.

Dear Colleagues,

I have the same questions as Les does. It seems this type of decision should be put to the general membership, not just made by a select few. I suspect the vote would be overwhelmingly in favor of retaining Vern. I cannot see how not having Vern as our lobbyist would serve us. It seems like a death knell for our profession in Oregon.

A public explanation to ALL Oregon DCs, via this list serve seems appropriate.

Dear Oregon DCs,

Is there anyone on this forum who agrees with this action??? Seems like a circle the wagons and shoot toward the middle tactic. The period of Vern’s service as lobbyist has been marked by what has seemed to me to be the most positive and productive relationship of the profession to our legislature that I recall. For those who recall previous lobbyists the comparison of their involvement with the field to Vern’s continuous posts and updates and cheerleading, day in and day out is telling. It is curious why this should have happened in the first place. Who is pissed about what and at whom? What’s the background story here? How is the OCA in a better position without Vern than with him as lobbyist?

Hello Fellow Chiropractic Physicians:I was SHOCKED to learn that Dr. Saboe's position as our lobbyist is a BIG MISTAKE!!!Dr. Saboe has a proven track record being our lobbyist. He is well known at the capitol. I as a member of the association request that Dr. Vern Saboe be immediately re-hired as our lobbyist. If there is anyone out there that does agree with me, please write letters to the association board, or post your message on this website.Thank you all.Sunita Bhasin, DCSunita

So, shouldn't legal action be taken against this present association? Therefore, Vern is not actually terminated, but only in the eyes of the old board. Vern and the group need to contact GATTI GATTI, Mr. on his represantation, if I understand this right. Correct me if I am off base, for I am the new guy on the block.
