Guest guest
Well Dear Colleagues, Been a long road getting info out of the VA as per Veterans wishing chiropractic services this is what I've come up with please make sure to save this post. Also I've now discovered that the Portland VA Medical Center has not hired a DC which is not what I was told quite some time ago and as such I'm back to placing pressure on the VA to follow-through with the Congressional directive to do so. I'm in contact with the VA officials in Portland, Jim Willis, Director of the Oregon office of Veteran's Affairs (appointed by the Governor) State Senator Boquist Chair of the Senate Veterans' and Military Affairs Committee a veteran and chiropractic patient, Co-Chairs of the House Veteran's Affairs Committee Rep. Sal Esquivel and Rep. Brad Witt both veterans and chiropractic patients. As your ACA Delegate and state lobbyist I've put together "congressionals" or letters to our Congressmen and US Senators with a cc to the above folks and our new Governor in short the Portland VA is about to "feel the heat!" Ok ...steps for your Veterans to take on their end... Have the veteran ask their PCP for a referral for chiropractic care. If they don't succeed and are sent for the usual meds, PT, specialty consults etc. with no results make sure they document all of this. Have the veteran request in writing yet again a referral for chiropractic care. Make sure the veteran keeps a detailed "paper trail." If the PCP continues to block such requests have the veteran schedule a visit with their "veterans' advocate" to discuss their desire to obtain chiropractic services and their PCPs refusal to refer for such. Have the veteran change their PCP, again make sure the document all. Finally have the veteran write a letter to their Congressman and US Senator called "congressionals" and these really get attention. You as the DC he wishes to see need to also write a letter to your Congressman and US Senator. Colleagues let me know if and when you need the mailing addresses of your Congressman and Senator. I will be discussing this issue when back in Washington DC next month with all our Congressmen and both US Senators or staff....we will keep the heat coming..... To the Continued Good Fight!
