I haven't noticed a recession reduction in my practice at all. My practice is

slowing because I am just getting worn out and tired. Now only working 3 days

per week. However, I have implemented a recession proof policy in my officed,

that would be my son, Colin who graduated from UWS two years ago and has pretty

much taken over all the other days of the week, along with working along side me

two days per week. We are seeing about 60% more patients than I was seeing

alone.

Though he has been seeeing all of the new Medicare patients, and some of the

other low ball insurance coverage to get the taste in his mouth that I am

banking on, this will only last a short time, and he can then understand what we

are all talking about when we say it is time for him to get out of that type of

care.

Some of the things I have done in the past was to have each of my staff, myself

included, write down the names of 10 patients that hadn't been in in over 6

months and carry their names around in our pockets. It is amazing how many of

those patients call in within the week. Weird, but it workds.I challenge each

of you to think of one of your patients whom you haven't seen in a while and see

for yourself how often one of those patients come in. Don't ask me how it

works, it jujst does.

Here is a piece of advice for you to think about. You are where you are today

in this economy, where you are, because this is where you feel comfortable

being. In other words, you like being slow!! YOu many not want to admit it, I

have had to change my way of thinking in the past, and was able to improve

myself by changing the way I thought.

Another tid bit for you to think about is about charactar flaws you dislike in

others, say loud and obnoxious people like me, typically are not liked by you

because you know you need to work on your character flaw of being loud and

obnoxious yourself. (at least in my situation anyway). Think about a type of

personality you don't like from others. Then, think if you are much like that

person yourself. Change your personality, and you won't have the problem with

others.

Something else I learned from a patient yesterday. Our children make us old!

Think about what your children do for you, say keep you off of the roof because

you can't possibly do that, at your age. Or, what we do to our parents to keep

them from doing things we think they are too old to do..... It makes them think

we think they are too old to do something. When we really should be encouraging

them to do more, not less. STay active, not sedentary. Think about it. I know

I have.

I have rambled for too long. Have a good night.
