Dairy Industry Lobbies FDA for Soymilk Name Change For once, I am in complete agreement withthe dairy industry.Milk executives want to change the name"soymilk" to something else. Should soymanufacturers be permitted to continuecalling soybean juice "milk?"The dairy industry is lobbying the FDA for exclusiverights to call only cow's milk MILK. Even Harvey Milkmay soon be nown as just Harv. As part of their effort, milk genuises have set up a facebook page:http://www.facebook.com/theydontgotmilkThe National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF)is lobbying federal agencies to prohibit soymilk companies from associating their products with any sort of dairy nomenclature.NMPF is a national farm organization representingjust about every dairy farm in America. So...what should we call soymilk?Seven-Up calls their soda "The Un-cola." I likethat. We would not want processors to confuse consumers intothinking that delicious and nutritious soy juiceis in any way related to bacteria-laden cow juice.Perhaps we should examine just what is in cow's milk, and label soy juice the Un-drink or Not-drink.Some examples come to mind. Soymilk can becalled "Not-Pus." After all, the average liter ofcow's milk sold in America contains about300 million pus cells. Soy does not contain pusunless you make your own and have a nasal condition. How about "Not-Steroids?" Cow's milk containsestrogen, progesterone, prolactin, oxytocin, andmelatonin, all powerful female steroid hormones.Soy juice has none of those.Do you have any suggestions? Dairymen do not wantsoy margarines to be called "butter." How about,Not-Saturated Animal Fat? Not Cholesterol?Not-Artery Clogger?Change the name soymilk to whatever you want, fellas. It's just a veil. Not-allergies. Not-dioxins.Not-growth hormones. Not-antibiotics. Not-diabetes.I could go on and on. The question is, can they?A bard once wrote, "A rose by any other namewould still smell as sweet." That same wisdom shouldbe applied to cow manure, for that is what thesedairymen keep trying to feed consumers. Cohenhttp://www.notmilk.com
