I was forwarded this comment (below) from the list serve -- I had not seen it prior or I would have respondedsooner...... THERE IS -0- % (NONE) OF THE OCA DUES THAT GOES TO POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS !!!! However, on the dues statements that go out -- by law we are supposed to inform our members about the% of dues that is not tax deductible due to "LOBBYING" -- not political candidate contributions. LOBBYING is defined by the state as follows: "Influencing, or attempting to influence, legislative actionthrough oral or written communication with legislative officials or other persons to influence or attempt to influence legislative action or attempting to obtain the goodwill of legislative officials" [ORS 171.725(8)] LOBBYIST is defined by the state as follows: "any individual who agrees to provide personal services for money or any other consideration for the purpose of lobbying or any individual who provides personalservices as a representative of a public agency, corporation, association, organization or other group for the purpose of lobbying. [ORS 171.725(9)] The function of OCA lobbyists are currently being performed by Dr Vern Saboe & Mazzara. This years statements show approximately 10% of the dues will be non-deductible. Themembership dues statements provide you our members with the approximate % that we have estimatedgoing into our budgetary year. It is obviously less in the non-legislative years and more during the sessionyears -- but as our association grows that helps all of us with the % of dues. In January -- we send out statements that give the exact percentage that is not tax deductible. I hope this explains that statement the members see on the membership invoices. If anyone that is a member has a further question about this please call the OCA office. "ChiroPac" and the previous "IcePac" were formed for the contributions to candidates. Personally...I think its a bad idea that 20% (or whatever %) of the OCA dues go for "political contribution."

The OCA is a "non-partisan" group, and as Dr. Caughlin pointed out, unless political contributions are split EXACTLY down the middle, then we by de facto become "partisan."

Then there's the whole issue of whether-or-not we ever give money to any OTHER political party other than dems and repubs...(i.e., Constitution, Independent, pot smoker...) (:-)

I just received my chiropac news letter and see that "We" donated $1000.00 to ... Why? From what I have understand he has not been very supportive of our profession. Wasn't he the one that was instrumental in shutting down the Chiropractor of the day program? It is nice to have "friends" but I think it is more important to support friends who support our profession! In reviewing on the Secretary of State's website "we" have donated $6500.00 to democrats and $500.00 to Dudley. Again are their not any republicans running for office?
