Guest guest
Thanks for this Woody. The 80% cut in teaching funds to universities (the underlying reason behind rise in student fees) will not hit health students, because they are funded from a different budget, although I don't think the powers that be have quit worked out yet how to deal with nursing degree students who until now have been funded through the same means as other undergraduates. There is also some recognition, although I don't know the details, of the importance of the 'hard sciences' and technology, topics that more readily attract funding from employers. However, the impact on the basic knowledge base that we all use, whether social science (including psychology, sociology, geography, economics etc), arts or humanities looks set to be pretty profound, with long term incalculable adverse effects. best wishesOn 21 Jan 2011, at 15:40, Caan, Woody wrote:See: http://www.campaignforsocialscience.org.uk/ ________________________________~-- EMERGING EXCELLENCE: In the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, more than 30% of our submissions were rated as 'Internationally Excellent' or 'World-leading'.
