Guest guest
Dear Senators, On Friday the latest UNICEF report on child health inequalities was launched, comparing the worst off children with the median children across most European countries (including the UK). The title of RC9 is The children left behind, which says it all. Thanks to Baroness Massey at the House of Lords yesterday there was some discussion of the UK situation in relation to Field's recent proposals and other benefit-related changes going on in England. The importance of school health came up both in relation to universal needs and specific groups like looked-after children and young offenders, but the Parliamentarians have a quaint view that this service is based on Paediatricians, not School Nurses! UNICEF's team were brilliant, and I have copied in one of the organisers Alice , in case you need more details/materials about this multi-national perspective on childhood. This Monday Baroness Massey's all-party Parliamentary group for Children publishes a UK report: Children and Young People in the Youth Justice System. With special permission, I took a copy to a Home Office meeting yesterday about anti-social behaviour, where there was much interest. On the cover is a note that says a lot: " There are no hard to reach young people, only those who are easy to ignore " .... Warm regards, Woody. ________________________________ From: on behalf of reeta chaudhry Sent: Fri 03/12/2010 11:35 Subject: Re: evidence for Healthy Child Programme and more Thank you .
