Guest guest
Hi ! I'm starting a new 12 week cycle too. Glad to have you aboard! This board is great for help and ideas and no questions are stupid. The logs you mentioned are at the following link: http://www.bodyforlife.com/exercise/journals.asp If you are not familiar with it, another GREAT site to help you is www.skwigg.com <http://www.skwigg.com/> Good luck! Kathy in Chicago _____ From: Couture [mailto:couture@...] Sent: Monday, 03 January, 2005 10:53 AM Subject: Starting next week! Good afternoon: I have read BFL and loved it and am now planning my approach. My husband even picked up the book and started reading it and wants to do this with me too!! I am sooo pumped about that!! We cleared out the extra bay in our garage and set up the NordicFlex Lift system we have (and never use), go the treadmill placed next to it, and put the dumbbells in a line! Today I will get some of the logs that we need printed off, I think I saw a link them somewhere, and we will sit tonight and start to plan our goals and workouts and review the machine, etc....So now I will be full of questions as we really start this so look out  I ordered the EFL book yesterday and hope that will be in before weeks end to help us get a grip on our food. We are nutritional dodunks and I know that our portions are out of control. We do not eat fast food but are addicted to one medium coffee from Dunkin Donuts a day---Yikes. That will be tough but I gave it up when I was pregnant and can do it again. I am not sure what I am going to do to get an accurate body fat count. Maybe I will call the nutritionist at the local hospital and see if she could do that for us. I was ready to take my before pictures as soon as I finished the book, but my husband wants to wait until we actually " start " . I thought that by staring at mine all week I would surely be ready to start next Monday. Thats it. Just wanted to get that out there and make it official. Have a great Monday-
Guest guest
Good luck to you in your new cycle! I did have the second site marked for a future look because I think somewhere I read about a recipe for cottage cheese that was sweetened?? That sounds very interesting since one can only eat so much plain cottage cheese before tiring of it. I will check out both of these tonight after work and my little one is sleeping. This is going to be an education for me and I know that it will be a tremendous help to have some pros like you all out there to lean on and bounce off when I need it. And Lord knows I will!! But I am going to do this!! Have a great day!! in NH -- Starting next week! Good afternoon: I have read BFL and loved it and am now planning my approach. Guest guest
Thanks ! Yes! The sweetened cottage cheese thingy is excellent. Here you go: 1 serving Fat Free Cottage cheese ½ serving fresh, frozen or canned fruit (the latter thoroughly rinsed) ½ serving oats Splenda to sweeten Small amount nuts (I like chopped nuts so there is some in each bite) The version I’m doing right now is with frozen berries (a combo of raspberry, blueberry & blackberry) nuked to thaw & walnuts. The version I did before Christmas was with canned pumpkin & dry roasted almonds (plus pumpkin pie spice) –tasted just like pumpkin pie filling. One tip – I let the mixture sit for 10 mins after I make it so the oats get soft. Guest guest
Oh, this sounds good! I don't have Splenda here but have Equal. Are they basically the same so that I could switch them? Guest guest
Hi - I switched to Splenda +/- 18 mos ago after reading many articles about it being healthier than Aspartame (Equal) and Saccharine (Sweet & Low.) Since then some people find that to be suspect. Many of the women on this site also like Splenda. Some prefer others. In the end, I like the taste of Splenda much better! Plus it can be used in baking (as in the protein muffins.) Everyone must decide for herself. Here's a past post from with the info you need to do that: I just wanted to post this link that gives a quick run-down of all the popular artificial sweeteners, the rumors, and the research. When it comes to safety, artificial sweeteners aren't equal: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2003/Nov/19/il/il04a.html And also The Center for Science in the Public Intrest Guide to Food Additives: http://cspinet.org/reports/chemcuisine.htm which evaluates Splenda (sucralose), Aspartame, Ace-K, Saccharine, and Stevia, along with all the other hard-to-identify gobbledygook you find on food labels. I'm not going to dive into the debate because I feel like everybody has to make up their own mind about the benefits and risks of various sweeteners. It's one of those things where people who feel strongly one way or the other tend not to change their minds. When researching sweeteners (or just about any health topic) be aware that there's a really vast amount of hysterical misinformation floating about. Here's a good starting point for checking out health scares and rumors: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blxhealth.htm Or various other internet hoaxes and urban legends: http://urbanlegends.about.com/ http://snopes.com/ I only add those because there's so much blatant hysteria about aspartame... and deodorant, and sushi, and bananas, and canola oil, and toothpaste, and shampoo, and tampons, and envelopes, and cell phones. :-) Pretty much you can find scary, strongly-worded, official-looking research that just about anything will kill you. Always check the source and use your own good judgement. _____ From: Couture [mailto:couture@...] Sent: Monday, 03 January, 2005 12:48 PM Subject: RE: Starting next week! Oh, this sounds good! Guest guest
To replace your coffee: either black, or: Starbucks Non Fat Venti Latte - I use it as a meal in a pinch. Has almost equal carbs / protein - I cannot live without coffee. www.starbucks.com > Good afternoon: > > I have read BFL and loved it and am now planning my approach. Guest guest
Yeah, I'm another person who hasn't given up soda or coffee. I like Diet Rite, it doesn't have aspertame, caffeine or calories, for that matter. It tastes pretty good too. I drink Diet Pepsi like a fiend. I also drink about a pot of coffee a day. But I also drink about 200 ounces of water a day. Do I pee a lot? Yes. But my inch loss and weight loss is still progressing really well. I haven't had any problems. I actually find that an espresso or strong black coffee right before a workout gives me a big Oomph. But if you are having problems because of caffeine, by all means, give it up. Good luck! -Ruth > > Good afternoon: > > > > I have read BFL and loved it and am now planning my approach.
