Slim Guide vs. Accumeasure calipers

I know that the Slim Guide calipers are recommended because they apply

the same amount of pressure every time, but does anyone know if the

readings from a SG are pretty accurate? Those things pinch HARD, and

the measurements I've gotten from the trainers at the gym who use SGs

and from my sister's SG caliper are quite a bit smaller than the

measurements I get using my cheapo $8 eBay Accumeasure. A 3-site

caliper body fat calculator using the SG numbers puts me at 14.3% but

the Accumeasure figures give me a 17.6% result. I know I should just

be looking at the trend vs. the actual number and use the same form of

measurement each time, but I was just curious about the Slim Guide's

accuracy. The SG measurement I had taken at the gym on October 12

was 16.2%, so I know I'm going in the right direction. I just don't

think I'm actually at 14.3% now, which makes me doubt the SG readings!

If you've ever been measured with any of the expensive clinical

calipers like Lange or Lafayette, they also pinch like all hell. :-)

Slim Guides are set to the same standard pressure as the professional

calipers, I think it's 10g per square mm or something like that. Any

of those calipers are going to be more accurate than the flimsy

accumeasures. It wouldn't surprise me at all if your body fat were

14.3%. You've been kicking ass.

Maggie, I do not know the answer to your question-but I would just

use the same caliper twice for consistency like you said. Either way-

you look awesome!!!! I saw your picture. Thanks for all the advice

and motivation. Keep it up.
