Guest guest
- haha, thats kind of funny because its my husband who went out and bought the thing. He seems to think that its all high tech and all the rules you have to follow are just the price you have to pay. But, yeah, its a real pain in the butt considering I hardly have a time where I haven't just eaten or worked out! Just before bed seems like the only time, but I forget about it and then I have to wait an entire day! I guess I will rely more on body measurements and my own judgement. I really dont care that much what my body fat percentage is, just how I look and what size I can fit into. It sure does look all pretty in the bathroom though, all glass and chrome :-) -shannon > > Hi > > Can't write much now, am on my way to work. Guest guest
Years ago, I had my body fat tested by a personal trainer, and that seemed good enough. Now, like you, I'm not that stressed about the % - or my weight for that matter. If I got on the scale right now and it weighed me in at 5kg less, I would not be excited as the mirror would still shout " jello! " back at me! I have a revolting fat roll just above my hip bone, and I pinch that from time to time to gauge progress. When that fat roll has gone (and I'm back to the same fat level I was at 6 years ago) I will be happy. Of course, when the hip-bone fat-roll has shrunk AND the scale says I'm lighter, then it's smiles all round!!! :-) > > > > Hi > > > > Can't write much now, am on my way to work. Guest guest
Just so you know, they are not accurate. If you want an exact number, I'd get it done at a gym. If you're just looking for a downward trend, then go for it. Mine can vary 5% from one day to the next. They tend to run about 5% too high for bodyfat. beijobear wrote: I'm getting one tomorrow, any suggestions on which KIND? i know the models and prices can make it a staggering/calorie burning kind of decision. Guest guest
Here's the scale I got: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor with Athletic Mode and Body Water http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009V1YPU It doesn't specifically tell you lean body mass, but since it's a wild (very wild) estimate, you wouldn't want to trust its lean body mass number anyway. Tanitas are only good for spotting upward/downward trends over time and not for getting an accurate body fat percentage. They tend to read women as much as 8% high depending on the time of day. Sometimes it might only be 3% high. The fact that it's all over the place drives some people crazy. I'm finding it entertaining. I've gotten over the initial shock of seeing the added weight of my meals and water, now I can't stay off of the thing. Wake up - get on the scale. Workout - get on the scale. Eat a pizza - get on the scale. Drink three glasses of water - get on the scale. I'm sure the novelty will eventually wear off, but right now I'm like a raccoon with a shiny thing. I will say that the weight portion of the scale is awesome. It gives you changes by two-tenths of a pound. Much, much nicer than a needle bouncing around or even older digitals that only show changes by half a pound. > I'm getting one tomorrow, any suggestions on which KIND? i know the > models and prices can make it a staggering/calorie burning kind of > decision.
