REPOST Contest -- Win Kaufman's book Perfume

Hi Everyone:

The mods and I realized it's been too long since one of our fragrant

contests.....so....

I've been touting this book on this group forever. I first got it in

1976 and used the Carles method of comparison and contrasting to

develop my knowledge of scent strength, longevity and interaction.

This method is still taught in Grasse as a basis for perfumery

studies. The book is lavishly illustrated with photos of the raw

materials, bottles through the ages, processing and packaging. There

are essays by Carles and Roudnitska. I treasure it and grab copies at

good prices whenever possible to give as gifts. I myself cut up a

copy early on to create a usable study booklet, as the book itself is

huge and unwieldy for the perfumer's table. The winner may decide to

take the easier route and just xerox them, but back in the day the

copies of the book were rather cheap and the pictures made nice wall

art, too. Today, the prices can vary from about $25 if you're lucky

So here's the contest: Post a message to the group about the " A Day

in the Life of a Nose " . Show us how you move through the world

governed by your nose and how it has changed your life.

The contest will run through Wed. Jan 3, 2007. The moderators will

choose the name of the winner randomly, so everyone has an equal

chance of winning. The book will be shipped Miami Florida. Open to

all members from all countries.

If I counted correctly, there have been only three submissions, unless

others have sent it directly to Liz, as I did, (as requested /too long

to post to group). I thought for sure there would be a flood of

submissions, not only for the treassure of a price, but just for the fun

of looking from the outside in, on ones own life.
