Guest guest
Hi VDRT, we can be newbies together!! Welcome. What I would suggest is to get yourself a couple of oils and get to know them. Just start with 2 or 3. You could either just pick ones you like the smell of (buy trying a few at the shop) or looking at lists and choosing a top, middle and base note. Just read through each list and pick one, then take them home, smell them from the bottle, smell them with your nose right next to the bottle, then after a while further away. Leave time between trying different ones because your nose can mix them up at first. Have a note book and write down whatever comes to mind about them, words or sayings. What do they remind you of? What feelings do they make? Its only for you, so write whatever. After a while you will get to know those very well. You can then look at introducing a couple more. You can also start to play by mixing a drop or 2 of this with a drop of that. What's the difference between 1 drop of a with 1 drop of b and 2 drops of c compared to 2 drops of a, 1 drop of b and 1 drop of c? What about 1 drop of a, 2 drops of b and 2 drops of c? And so on. Every chance you can get, smell flowers and things from nature. What is the difference between a rose and lavender? What about rose and a tree? Or what does the river smell like? What does earth smell like? Is it a different smell in summer than winter? If so, what's different? Why is it different? You may ask what has smelling dirt and trees got to do with perfume, but we are talking natural perfumes. They are made of the very things of nature and the flowers that are pressed for oils absorb the minerals and elements of the dirt they grow in, that is why some will talk about smelling the difference between and oil from India and an oil from Africa. And just starting to focus on your sense of smell will start training you. Try to come up with a word or two that sums up the smell of coffee, wet hair, fried eggs - the usual smells around us every day that we never notice.
