Today I am wearing my Old Kingdom parfum, which has

notes of rose, cinnamon, frankincense, vanilla,

osmanthus, and ylang-ylang. It's a scent that is

especially nice on cloudy days like today, because it

evokes brilliant sunshine...somehow!

I think it would be fun to do this more often also. After my review on

Perfume Critic of Camille parfum, I am wearing that today. Testing the

sillage between the eau de parfum and the parfum in jojoba. It has iris

root from Italy, Osmanthus, Mimosa, Tuberose and a number of other beautful

essential oils and absolutes.....It was quite an expensive formula. It also

has spice and some resins so it is not really a floral...maybe more of a

green note.

During the day I often spray my on edps or edts in the store. No particular

rhyme or reason to it. My own custom parfum is how I start the day

normally..

After making a number of parfums during the day (in my studio) you leave

smelling like a parfum counter. Some people say I smell good. I tend to

agree. If they ask what I am wearing it is too involved to answer.

Anyone relate to this?

Today I am wearing two arms full of natural testers. One a brisk

grassy green scent, another woody scent, my zillionth mod of a vetiver

scent, and a floral mix, with black currant bud and anise, i love this

one but may not be for everyone. Two people so far today have

commented on my perfume. Perhaps I should combine them all for one

grand scent...

Today I wore Blond Tobac by Mandy Aftel, I am always trying to figure

out if I like this one or not. I am not sure if it suits my skin. It's

sometimes a bit on the heavy side for me, but I wear it anyway,

because I like to test myself in picking up the different notes. Also

I wear it as an example of great perfume so my unconscious mind gets a

lesson in what real perume smells like.

When the Blond Tobac had worn off (perfume tends not to last very long

on me as I have very fair skin) I put on some of Mandy's Linden

Blossom. I know I like this one. It's very cheerful and bubbly, just

what I needed.

Right now I smell up to my elbows in just rose. I was making a batch

of my Rose Petal ink. I have to stew a large pot of pink organic rose

petals, I fill the pot with petals and simmer until the petals are

white, then I press the liquid out and repeat three times until the

liquid is dark dark red. Everywhere smells like roses, as well as my

hands.

Today I am wearing mostly the champaka I spilled when

I was making a dilution. I do have some of my own

perfume on but I can only smell the champa! When will

it fade?!!

Ohhh what a fun idea! I just read the descriptions, and it's amazing,

how there might not be a face with a name, to be able to 'smell "

someone, quickly gives a new dimension on personality. Strange in a way,

since the scent applied will change. Especially for perfumers. I love

the " two armfuls of testers " or ZZs answer. Often hard to say what

someone might comment on, while working on perfume. And still, to read,

translates in sensation, which opens yet another dimension. The magical

beauty of scent.

I am wearing my perfume, I named Memories. Hard to describe the notes

coming through, it's a complex formula with lots of EOs and tinctures.

In fact, I am wearing it, trying to evaluate it for description.

It opens fresh, green, with some spice, but already has dark undertones,

coming through from the base, which is spicy-oriental. The heart is a

powdery floral, but has counter effects of fresh and green.

Describing scent is a real challenge for me. Probably because it's

something I have no experience with. I love to read blogs, in which

perfumes come alive with description, but this is one of the things I

just haven't developed yet. Not even close.

" Memories " is one of my favorites, since it successfully contrasts the

pleasant, known, with more challenging, scents. It seems to be changing,

yet remain at a constant. It lasts quite some time, setteling down to a

comforting greenish powdery amber. Reminding of the journey of light and

dark, disturbing and encouraging. It is a scent that makes my heart

beat faster, tapping into emotions, concealed, calling forth

anticipation, even though in which regard I do not know. As it reaches

drydown, there is a sense of peace, much like adrenaline well used.

Funny thing is, it is a very pleasant scent to me, I get compliments,

but I'm sure that it's not for everyone. Designed gender neutral i.e not

with either in mind, it is wearable by males and females. The concept

being exploration of the journey of memories. The good, the bad the

ugly, the things that made us who we are. That is where the challenges

and pain transform into light, into caring and compassion, to

understanding others.

In expressing the concept, it is a success. In regards to perfumery

rules, I'm not so sure, even though it seems to be. It's clear (not

muddy) despite it's many components. The opening is crisp, slowly

changing, but there is also a continuance as well as preview, which I'm

not sure is acceptable. Seems there should be a more definite

transformational setting from one to the other. The drydown is

definitely a summary of what came before, on a quieter note, which is

again good on concept, not sure if it should be like that on perfume.

Maybe it is more liquid art, rather then perfume, but I love it.

I am definitely working on description, to summarize a scent in naming

components, rather then concepts and effects, to cut down on rambeling.

I need to probably start with the perfume design. For today, however,

it's what I'm wearing.

Hi ,

Based on my own personal spillage experience, the

champaca should fade by next June, or July at the very

latest...

Try tomorrow....relish in its fragrance as it softens......really nice in

the evening.

In India this tree blooms at night and it is a huge magnolia tree...children

sit in them and get zoned out.

Close your eyes and meditate with it....it is magical. Love it.

That sounds really nice, Ayala. How about calling it simply " Phoenix "

P.S. I'm trying a bit of my version of Blue Nile on my arms. It's mostly gone

now and thats either because I have to work on the fixation or the fact that I

just worked out(maybe my increased body heat evaporated it faster?). It

contains a bit of blue chamomile(for the color), Roman chamomile, ylang ylang,

clary, ambrette, storax, among others. I was thinking some lotus in it would

be nice and appropriate. Maybe some either rose, jasmine, or orange flower.

> What are you wearing?

When I first saw this thread... I realized that as much as I loved

scents, I wasn't wearing any. So your note, Ayala, actually made me

think about what scent I should be wearing...

In all my recent blending obsession, it occurred to me that I really

don't have a strong preference for anything. I LOVE scents, don't get

me wrong, but there's not one thing I can say I really love, and I

haven't yet made that mental conversion of mood = scent.

So after coming to that realization, I ran into my bathroom and

squirted Opium all over myself. My husband came home and said,

omg...you smell like a french whore! That made me smile...

Thanks Ayala! :P
