Guest guest
: I'm new to the group, but not new to BFL. For me, the palm portion was too vague. I followed it at first, but found that my eye judgment was way off, and I did not see results. So somewhere along the line I started weighing my meats to see what a palm sized portion really was. This helped, now I am a better judge of what is real. The closer you get to your goal the more precise you need to be. Question for " by the book " members. Are there any members who have done all their challenges strictly by the book using the palm-fist method without measuring and weighing everything? I plan to do all my challenges like this and would like to know if someone else who has done this can tell me what to expect as time goes on. I have heard a lot of stories from women who explain why they start counting calories ect but would like to here the other side of the coin as well. > > If you take free day that is one way of zigzagging in a sense in > that it " refeeds " your body into understanding that it is not in > starvation mode. Guest guest
I've been on BFL for four years and have never counted anything. Any zig zagging I have done has mostly been by responsibly winging it. I really don't even deviate much from the original BFL authorized food list either except with free meals. It is entirely possible to do this without ever counting anything. I have to count carbohydrates for my children, I'm not about to complicate my life further by counting calories for myself. For me any kind of counting tends to add to the stress of the program. Stasia
Guest guest
I'd have to agree with Stasia. My sister-in-law gave me the heads up about this program and she has completed 5 challenges lost 80 pounds and is now a personal trainer and doesn't count a thing. This girl has muscles popping out all over the place. I've seen her literally throw a sandwhich together and throw it and an apple in a bag and run out the door. Or we'll drive up to 's and she'll order a plain potato and grilled chicken sandwhich and just throw out the bread. She really does not waste time on all that charting and counting. I've been compulsive for years about dieting and would take hours to browse aisles in the grocery store examining labels and more time at home adding up all the percentages of different foods. In my opinion counting every thing you eat is just another form of compulsion that usually carries over to other areas of a person's life. I promised I'd never go that route again. That's why when she told me about this program I yelled 'thank god'. lol Planning is one thing keeping track of every morsel and charting every tiny thing is a bit much. Who can live like that daily without it consuming their thoughts the majority of time? Our bodies are not machines and little fluctuation here and there is not going to prevent you from reaching your goals. I want to get in shape but I want to live my life while doing it. I don't want to start anything I can't do for the rest of my life. I think as your fitness level improves and you become more efficient at burning and utlizing calories attempting to pinpoint exact numbers for the foods you eat is almost impossible because your activity level and metabolism is improving quickly and you're constantly changing. > > I've been on BFL for four years and have never counted anything. That's how I do it. I have spent years, counting, measuring, etc. and it just got to be overwhelming. I go by palm/fist right now and always have with BFL. Occasionally if I'm bored at work I will track it in Fitday but it is just out of boredom and curiosity. Colleen
