I haven't used civet, but it's history in perfumery is something that can't be ignored, from a historic and aesthetic standpoint. Ambergris, which is much lighter and absolutely beautiful after aging in alcohol or oil, I do use because it is harvested in a cruelty-free manner. What a little ambergris does to a blend cannot be denied, it marries all the levels of notes, imparts a smoothness and truly lives up to the name " modifier " .
