Guest guest
hello all, happy new year, I need some insight about cinnamonum camphora. Under this appelation, I find not less than 3 vernacular names: -- ho -- camphor (= camphor tree???) -- ravinstara (=ravensara??? being ravensara aromatica) I'm lost and confused. I was initially interested in Cin.camphora because I am looking for an EO with a strong camphor content. Any suggestion? My alternative option is Rosemary Camphor-type. Any names of reputable suppliers for rosemary camphor type? thank you ! fab

Ho is the chinese for camphor (the tree) - they are the same thing, and come in several chemotypes, camphor (the chemical) being one. What you should be looking for is a camphor-rich ho leaf oil. Ravintsara is the name given to the camphor tree in Madagascar. It is a cineole chemotype, not a camphor one. Tisserand
Guest guest
thank you so much , it all makes perfect sense now. Another question : it's unclear for me if the white cristal that I call camphor is derived from the bark or from the leaves of the camphor tree. cheers, fab

As far as I know the bark is not a particular source of camphor, but the essential oil is distilled from the chipped wood of the tree. Camphor can then be easily separated from the rest of the oil by filtration, as solid camphor crystals naturally form. Tisserand
