Lydia's accountability 11-2

Okay. The usual good news and bad...

The good news: I made it to the gym and had a pretty good 19MAS. I say 19MAS

because somewhere in there I seem to have lost a minute... but I can't

figure out when, LOL

The bad news: I still didn't eat clean... nor get all my meals in. I don't

know what it is... but I'm just not into the right frame of mind. On the

other hand, I am still trying to get INTO that frame of mind...

sorry let me try this again....

If lifting weights and eating clean was not part of your lifestyle for many

years, it takes a lot of practice for your mindset to change. I don't know many

people who jump out of bed at 5 am in the morning just bounding with energy to

do a 20 minute interval cardio workout. I know some of you are out there, so

let me tell you right now, I hear ya. But for many who are struggling to just

get out of bed it is different. The first step in changing your mindset is

being willing to do what it takes. AND I DO MEAN BEING WILLING TO DO WHATEVER

IT TAKES. This is what true accountability is all about. If you set goals for

yourself, now is the time to reassess whether they are worthy goals that are

driving you through the tough times. You already know what needs to be done in

order to make lifelong changes for yourself. I want to challenge you to give it

your all, so that you have mostly good news days. This requires change from the

inside out, sometimes all you have to do is just show up. Even if you are

tempted to eat crap just set it down for a while, lie to your brain, and go eat

what you are supposed to eat. On days that you don't " feel " like working out,

just lie to your brain, and tell yourself you are just going to show up. Now

I'm going to get tough with you here..... Being accountable by confessing your

sins is okay once in a blue moon, confessing repeatedly your woahs is a way to

remain a victim of circumstance and does nothing for your personal power. Okay,

end of preaching, but I really know you have it in you to have many many many

good days with stories of fat loss and inches lost!! I would like to encourage

you to take your power and control back and know that we are all with you in

spirit as you make successful lifestyle choices!!

Thanks . That is what accountability is all about... without someone

Lydia - re-read Crossing the Abyss - that might get you back into the

right mindset. I had a candy attack yesterday! I usually allow

myself a mini reeces sticks after lunch but ended up having 1 of

those, several tootsie rolls and a mini milky way at home, some milk

duds. I then grabbed up the left over halloween candy & moved it out

of site and i had no more problems! Out of site, out of mind.

okay, so nobody asked me, the girl who has no profile, and no pictures,

but

has been on the board since march.... but here goes.

Things that help me stay on bfl and not have to deal with my willpower issues:

1) the less mrps and more veggies and fruits, the less hungry i'll be throughout

the

day and the likelihood of me eating non-bfl stuff decreases. Whole food is just

more

filling.( an apple a day keeps the munchies a little bit further away)

2) Although I don't have proof, for me, I am sure that the more diet coke I

drink, the

more my appetite increases. So although I truly have a love affair with it, I

just don't

keep it in the house. Now I just " abuse " it as a sort of mini treat, whenever

I'm out

with others and they drink alcohol, now I'm just thrilled to have a few diet

cokes. So

i've replace one bad habit, with a less bad habit. I also drink it whenever I'm

in a

restaurant of at the movies, etc. I feel like I'm getting a treat. (Some people

have no

problem with diet sodas, but its an issue for me)

3) Eating white carbs or sugar just makes me want to eat more of the same, so

now

that I know this, I know I'm taking a big risk by having it in the first place.

I do it

sometimes, but I know I'm one step away from falling off big time.

4) Having free day on a sunday is very good for me, because mondays are so

different

that it makes it easier to eat bfl style again. If I have free days on saturday,

it ends up

being a free weekend....

5)I try and keep my monster of a stomach fed and not skip meals, because if I

get to

the point where I could say the words " I'm starving " there is no telling what I

could

eat. (I keep an emergency mrp bar in my purse....) I know myself a little

better now,

and have realized that I have little " willpower " , so I try make it so that I am

not faced

with having to try and use " willpower " , because I'd lose.

Thanks so much Kathy and Lydia:

I've struggled myself, and it takes one walking in your shoes to really know

where you are. I am doing the food part of BFL through another program which is

more controlled. The difference for me now is I HAVE to be accountable and if I

even enter one candy bar it would score my day as an F and after a few F days

you have to start the program all over again. The whole point of changing our

eating, is to change the way we make our food choices. If the goal is fat loss

then we are only cheating ourselves and wasting valuable time by sneaking in

junk and denying it will make a big difference. After we arrive at our goal

physique making poor food choices now and again is much easier as we will be

maintaining our weight. But for the 12 weeks we dedicate our mind body and soul

to the practice of BFL. I have been on and off this program since Bill wrote

the book. Let me share some very real cycles that I have gone throu

I think my biggest problem is " antimotivation "

What I mean by this is: every time I get in good shape and sexy looking, I

end up having another baby and going back to square one again.

While I have no intention of getting pregnant again, I do think that my

subconscious mindset is to " head it off at the pass " by staying less

attractive.

I think I need a shrink, LOL

But I'll re-read it tonight... and let you know what I come up with.

Even at level 1 you're doing well! I had a skinny little friend who

could only go on level one for about 5 minutes. Good job on building

your endurance again!

Well, I'm gonna do level 2 tomorrow. But I'm not posting accountability...

or if I do, it's only gonna be for workouts. I'm just NOT doing well with

eating clean... off to re-read " Crossing the Abyss " and see if I can get a

handle on my goals.

and then rereading my old notebooks from when I first started.

I thought about you all day today, weird that we don't know each other, but I

could sense your need for change through your emails. I posted this a few days

back with another group and wanted to share it with you as well.

Sometimes making small changes to work around challenges is what is necessary

Consider The Alternative

In response to the question: How do you stay motivated? Charlie Moody wrote on

misc.fitness.weights:

I look in the mirror: if I see any trace of the sad, exhausted, pale, weak, fat,

whipped wage-slave desk-jockey I used to be, I'm ready to lift some weight. I'm

reminded of my sister (nothing personal), who's spent her life doing all the

stuff other people want her to do, and all the stuff she figures she should do.

A couple of weeks ago, she asked me with tears in her eyes when would it be her

turn to have a life and do what she wants? All I could tell her was, " It'll be

your turn when you get off the hamster wheel and take a *bleeping* turn. " It's

up to you. No one else. You'll find the time to work out when you DECIDE you're

gonna work out. You'll eat and rest and take care of yourself because you decide

you deserve it, you need it, you want it, and NO ONE is going to keep you from

it. Not even you. I'm a beginner, too, and no-one's gonna watch what I eat for

me, no-one's gonna lift an ounce of my weight. I can make up any story I want

about it, but stories are bullsh...: I can be a warrior, or I can be a victim.

For the warrior, no excuses; for the victim, only excuses.

In my case, my family history is a ticking time bomb. Between the osteoporosis,

cardiovascular disease, hypothyroidism, and stress/cognitive/anxiety disorders,

I have a full slate of potential genetically linked disasters. On the plus side,

difficult, especially since many of these conditions did not have to occur, or

could have been reduced in their severity. To be perfectly frank, I am going to

be in seriously deep sh... if I don't take care of myself. I don't have the kind

of genetics that allow me to smoke a pack of unfiltered Gauloises a day, chase

it with a rasher of bacon, and live to 120. The writing's on the wall: unless I

want a premature and probably unpleasant demise, I'd better get off my butt and

keep moving.

Now at thirty I find myself considering my own mortality more and more. I watch

people around me get consumed in their careers to the detriment of their

relationships and own wellbeing. I see them park themselves at their desks for

twelve hours a day, popping anti-inflammatories to control the RSI and the

backaches. I watch them drink, smoke, and live on takeout food. And I watch them

start to crumble, piece by piece.

I've decided that I'm not going to die until I'm damn good and ready. I've also

decided that every year of life that I am generously granted is going to be

spent pursuing optimal health: physical, mental, and emotional. No job, no

lifestyle is worth the damage that inactivity and poor eating causes. Am I

drinking seaweed juice and living in an oxygen chamber? Hell no. A good quality

of life includes pleasures like tasty food and getting out of the house, getting

dirty, getting a few scrapes. But it also means constant maintenance in the form

of self-care. This is a small rent to pay for getting to live in such a cool

apartment!

The alternative to exercise is sedentary living and inactivity. The alternative

to eating well is cheating the body of what it needs. The alternative to a

healthy lifestyle is self-destruction. The alternative to feeling fit and

energetic is feeling like a bag of reheated dogsh.. The alternative to growth is

stagnation. Which one sounds better to you?

By the way, don't you have a 3 pm appointment with a chunk of iron?

Even at level 1 you're doing well! I had a skinny little friend who

could only go on level one for about 5 minutes. Good job on building

your endurance again!

Thanks again, ... I think it's going to take some serious

soul-searching. I've been superficially serious, but down deep I've been

avoiding things like setting concrete goals, etc.

Every bit of advice helps... and it helps not only me, but lurkers who may

be in the same boat as me but more reserved about speaking up.

In response to the question: How do you stay motivated? Charlie Moody wrote
