Hi ,

Glad that you got your flu shot... I haven't been able to get mine yet... My Dr. isn't getting them in either, so he told me to get one where ever I could... The lines have been outrageous around here also, am not able to stand in them so long... There's Finally a place in a couple of towns over that are taking appointments and I called them today... She asked how old I was and I told her 53, she then said that what chronic illnesses then as its not for everyone, I got as far as # 5 on the list of 21 and she sighed and said come in Fri. ) So I'll be getting mine this Fri afternoon... I hope they'll still give me it with this cold I've had for the last 7 weeks... (really infectious sinusitis)

HelloI was under the impression that chronic illnesses in general counted due to possible complications and diabetes was specifically mentioned. Of course, my Congestive Heart Failure secondary to Dilated Cardio Myopathy and diabetes pretty much does it for qualifying for the shots and then some.What really disturbed me was that there were Doctors, Dentists and Nurses in the line as well. One would've figured that their workplaces would have the shotsbut apparently not. Of course I had just been to my Cardiologist a few days earlier, that would've been another logical place to set up a priority flu-shot program but apparently not.I can see how someone would faint in the line, I thought I was about to a few times myself and I'm relatively young (though probably the most ill in the line).Of course, you could cross the border into Canada where there isn't a flu-shot shortage since Michigan is pretty close to Canada. Had I not been able to get one here in Texas, I would've flown up to visit my parents and gotten a shot there.Hmmm... The flu season is the exact opposit down in Brazil since it's in the southern hemisphere so I really should be getting a shot down there around May or April if I'm there on business so much. Maybe that's why I was hospitalized in Brazil with Pneumonia. Unfortunately, the sothern hemisphere shot is different so I won't be able to get a shot before I leave. I guess that the best would be to ask a Doctor here for two to three weeks of antiviral, get a shot there while taking the anti-virals to protect me during that trip and then I should be ok for subsequent trips.Regards,

I hope you manage to get a shot. Last year around this time, the flu

was already in Houston. This year, it seems to be off to a slow start

but it's already in Texas sporadically, just got upgraded to " local "

activity level this week.

The website that I used to find a shot now simply reports that all their

flu shot programs have been canceled. I did see a sign up in the

office that they were still going to have the office program, makes me

wonder if they are going to take any steps to filter out the healthy

people. The State of Texas is sueing two of the flu shot distributors

for price gouging.

The local newspaper says that another 600,000 shots were coming to Texas

but finding out where to get them is now nearly impossible.

I'm leaving for Brazil on Friday. Communication goes a lot easier face

to face rather than over the phone, especially now that the time

difference is four hours instead of two hours, and they seem to be

jumping to the wrong conclusions recently so I need to get them to calm

down a bit. I held off from going to Brazil for a week because the

guys in the Houston office all wanted to go to a conference, I pointed

out that it was poor form for an entire department to go and someone

should stay behind so guess what, I get to hold down the fort. Of

course, this delay messes up quite a few things so I had to reschedule

my Cardiologist appointment and I also had to extend the stay to avoid

traveling close to Thanksgiving, you can bet that travel will be bad

around Thanksgiving. That means I'll be down south for quite some time

now, I was hoping for a quick trip for a change.

I find that when I travel, my health steadily worsens the longer that

I'm away from home.

Fortunately, it's not flu season down south but it is a shame to leave

Houston when the weather is so nice. It's only nice in Houston for a

short time each spring and fall, quite unbearable in the summer and winter.

Hi ,

Most likely missed ya before ya left ( Sounds like you will be gone past Thanksgiving... Is your heart in good shape at the moment to be canceling your cardio appt.? Remember to Eat properly and to take your meds!!!

You've been having storms in Houston lately, haven't ya??? Its Cold here (

I got my flu shot today... Didn't have to wait, there were a lot of people, but they were putting everyone through like an assembly line... I got there 30 min's. early and they let me go right on through... I found out the clinic was giving them by appt through our local newspaper...

Leave it to you to hold down the fort ) Now you be careful on your trip and Try and have some casual time also... ) Keep us posted...

Hello Helen

Thanksgiving is one of the reasons why I'm staying down here this

long. It would be nice to be in the US during Thanksgiving but the

airports are crazy the weekend before and the weekend after Thanksgiving

for good reason. Missing it, is not too bad for me, as a Canadian,

Thanksgiving is on Columbus Day in October, I missed that one as well.

Come to think of it, I haven't been to many Thanksgivings in the last

few years, I guess something like Thanksgiving just rubs in how

difficult the last few years have been health wise. It's all for the

better, a traditional Thanksgiving day feast tends to trigger CHF in a

big way because of all the sodium and all the overeating.

I really shouldn't have postponed the Cardiologist appointment because

he just upped my Hyzaar prescription and wanted the follow up to see

what the effect has been but it was all a matter of timing. If I wait

any longer, I would have to wait for more meds to come by mail in order

to have enough to be away for any length of time and that would probably

put me into the Christmas season which is a big tourist season for

Rio. The idea is to get as much out of the way as possible so that

Christmas and New Years should be trouble free on the work front. Of

course, I doubt that it will, the Houston office is coming to a critical

point people wise. I'm expecting several people to leave before my

return. Of course, that may improve my bargaining position somewhat.

The weather is actually very nice in Houston, it's a shame to be away

since it is so rare to have pleasant weather. The cold fronts just

blew quickly through pushing all the polution and clouds offshore. It

did get a bit chilly but it was nice to be able to open the windows and

get some reasonably fresh air. Of course, now that I'm away, I've left

the thermostat on heat so that if there's a big cold front, nothing will

freeze, that means it might get a bit hot during the days for the cats

but cats like heat.

I guess they are more organized with the flu shots now. The

appointment only policy is a good one because then people won't all be

showing up as early as possible like they did in Houston, the line

occupied half of the supermarket. I'm still glad that I got my shots

when I did in October because for some reason, Houston is always the

first city to get hit hard with the flu, just look at the animation of

last years flu on flustar.com.
