Water woes (was: Accountability Bandwagon- 10-25-04)

I always take water to the gym with me... but the most I ever drink is 16-24

oz. and I have a hard time drinking enough the rest of the day. That's why I

count the water in my shakes and betagen toward my daily total. Otherwise

I'd NEVER have 10 cups/day!

On the other hand, I can see that if I got out and exerted myself a bit

more, I'd be drinking more. When I was taking the martial arts classes out

back (in a neighbor's yard, outside) I drank a good 2 cups of water during

that hour... but I haven't been going outside much ever since the

hurricanes.

Hey Lydia -

I'm a stay-at-home-mom, so I'm not excessively active. I do housework,

occasionally take my younger daughter to the park (where she won't let me

just sit and watch ;-)), cook, sometimes take walks with my neighbors. I do

a lot of sewing, though, which is on your butt and not active at all.

What helps me tremendously in getting the water in, is drinking it while I

do my weight workouts. Seriously - take water to the gym and sip on it

between sets. It'll be gone before you know it. I work out in my basement,

and yesterday I took 2-20oz bottles down with me and they were gone by the

end. Also try to drink one with every meal - at least 16-20oz. I just

re-cycle gatorade bottles and they work perfectly. Yesterday I found that I

was pretty darn full all day long, and I think it was because of all that

water.

Let me know if the sips between sets works for you...

Hi all -

I think I'll try this for awhile - hopefully it'll help me stay on

track!

Yesterday went pretty well, considering I was coming off pretty much

a 4-day binge....

8am - 3 eggwhites/1 whole egg scrambled with one small potato fried

in Pam

(10am - small non-fat mocha at park)

11:30 am - big bowl of lettuce, tomato, 3 oz deli turkey, 2T

Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing, 1 orange (shared with my daughter)

3pm - 3/4c fat free cottage cheese, 1/2 c blueberries, ~1/8 c All-

bran, 2 packets splenda

5:45 pm - 4 oz. Extra lean turkey burger on lite, whole wheat bun,

lettuce, tomato, squirt of ketchup, tsp of lite mayo, spoon of

relish, half of a snack size Nestle Crunch, several bites of

broccoli soup

8:30 - choc cream myoplex lite shake w/1 Tblsp of Nat PB

Throughout the day I drank 120 oz of water (not including the 20 in

the shake) and 1 12-oz can of diet root beer.

I don't have a problem with water, so here is what I do: The first

thing I do when I get up, is grab a bottle of water and start

drinking, and then the rest of the day, I take water where ever I

go. I usually bring four 20 oz. bottles with me when I go to the

gym. I drink about half or all of it on the way to the gym, then I

sip between Reps AND Sets when I do weights and drink tons during

and after my cardio...then I drink another bottle on the way home or

during my errands. Needless to say, I make lots of pee stops. But,

doing that, and just ALWAYS having a bottle of water with me, I

drink 80 to 140 ounces a day. Good luck!

What else do you drink during the day? Perhaps replacing coffee,

soda, etc. with water would help. Or you could try flavored water.

I'm trying to get down 15 cups of water a day for the next 4 weeks. I

did it yesterday for the first time (I didn't even count the 8 oz. I

drank with my Creastack or two cups of non-caffeinated tea), and it

cleared away the last remnants of post-free day bloating overnight. I

went to bed weighing almost 135 lbs (I've been hovering at 133-135 lbs

for the past 5 days even though I started last week at 130.5 lbs), and

woke up right back at last week's starting weight of 130.5 lbs.

Water is a good thing.

I know not everyone is crazy about the " taste " of water, but I just

chug down my 16 oz cup without thinking about it too much, generally

in less than one minute, even when I'm not doing anything more

strenuous than sitting at my desk and typing. I don't even need to

eat anything with it these days, although a nutrition bar will almost

always make me down 2-3 cups of water.

6 pm...12 cups down, 3 more to go.
