Guest guest
Greetings, Apparently it is difficult ot obtain Gardenia Abs that has not been adultered or synthetic. Gardenia maceration is available and also a natural Gardenia blend (EOs and Abs). Can anyone tell me what blends of EOs and Abs would smell close to Gardenia Abs. Thanks in advance regards, Poh Yee _________________________________________________________________ Talk now to your Hotmail contacts with Windows Live Messenger. http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwme0020000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://get.liv\ e.com/messenger/overview

The smell of gardenia I can best describe as haunting, The street venders in the East used to sell 2 type of Garlands one of Jasmine & the other of Gardenia . They were held in the same hand , the fragrance was unforgettable but this is only Guess work based on two different flower Garlands tion being held in the same hand. Wether the same result would be achieved when the oils were infused, is better answered by someone who has more experience than me in Perfume blending. Some one once told me that the Moni ( I think that is how you spell it) from Tahiti, is in fact Gardenia. Do you or any one else in the group know if this is true ? As I have tried to source Gardenia E.O. In the UK but have been told it does not excist, wether true or I have just been looking in the wrong place I do not Know but if any one has a UK supplier. their details would be gratefully received, Love & Light Gill. > _________________________________________________________________ > Talk now to your Hotmail contacts with Windows Live Messenger. > http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwme0020000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://get.liv\ e.com/messenger/overview >

It is also called Tiare flowers.... it is made from the maceration of the petals on coconut and the tahitian women use it for hair similarly to how the egyptians used the unguents (except without the cone on the head (chuckle). I do believe has been called gardenia..... UK suppliers...... there are a few. Essentially Oils, I think Fragrant Earth...... but lately Chrissie Wildwoods new website has described a particularly lovely one which would be worth exploring ....... as I posted earlier they have just moved to Lampeter and site won't be reopening they say till Dec...... hey it nearly is..... so check it out....... www.crabbe & wylde if they arn't open the news slot should give info....... hope this helps fragrantly Janita Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger. I have searched high and low. Found only macerated gardenia and a natural blend of Eos and Abs to mimic the scent. Thinking of getting a potted plant and when in bloom, macerate petals and infusing in FCO or jojoba. Has anyone tried this? Guest guest
Gardenia absolute is really hard to find and is very expensive. It DOES exist though. It is even listed in Lawless Essential Oils Encyclopedia. Because it is so expensive, it is very often adulterated. I had high quality gardenia oil once, and it was very creamy, slightly powdery, similar in some ways to Jasmine. Of course it does not smell like the fresh flower. I personally find that Jasmine Sambac is the most similar note to the fresh Gardenia flowers. I find that in floral bouquets, when white florals are used - such as jasmine, ylnag ylang, tuberose, along with sambac jasmine - the result is very much gardenia like. Heady, fruity, intoxicating, floral and utterly fresh and tropical. Anya is the Tropical Flower Queen, and is an expert in tincturing and macerating gardenia. I am sure she will step in at some point... Guest guest
Forgot to mention one useful source: Poucher's " Bible " : in volume 2, the notes listed to create a Gardenia accord that are from natural origin (i.e. essential oils and absolutes): Top notes: Coriander Rosewood Bergamot Sweet Orange French Petitgrain Mimosa Absolute Geraniol Palmarosa (???) Heart notes: Clove Orris absolute Myrrh resin Broom absolute Jonquille absolute Yland yland Ambrette seed Orange flower absolute Jasmine absolute Rose absolute Tuberose absolute Base notes: Cassie absolute Civet asbolute Benzoin Castoerum Costus Coumarin (perhaps use some tonka instead) Labdanum resin Patchouli Perum Balsam Sandalwood Tolu baslam Vanillin (use vanilla instead) Vetiver My experience is that experimenting with some or all of the essences listed in the " Odour Classification " in Poucher's book will lead you to a good direction. Thanks so much Ayala. Gosh, the amount of different scents. It just amazing to see them all. I will try them one day when I can afford all the EOs/Abs. For now I think I will tincture some gardenia petals in alcohol and see what happens. Going to get a few potted plants soon ) kind regards, Poh Yee _________________________________________________________________ Get the latest Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta version. Join now. http://ideas.live.com

You will need a lot of flower! I wouldn't necessarily use ALL these oils. If you have a good few of them I suggest you experiment. This is just my gut intuition here, as I haven't tried making a gardenia dopelganger (yet), but I will start with these: Coriander EO Rosewood Mimosa Absolut Orris absolute Ylang Jasmine Sambac Absolute Tuberose Benzoin Tonka Vetiver Vanilla Patchouli I would keep the basenotes really, really mellow though. It has to be mostly jasmine sambac absolute, and the rest would be there to add other aspects (spiciness and sweetness) of gardenia. I am getting tempted to try one myself now! Thanks Poh Yee> HI Poh Yee, I don't know if you've ordered your plants yet, but I know where you can get a Tahitian gardenia plant. Aloha Tropicals sells them, www.alohatropicals.com . I remember Tahitian gardenia, as well as common gardenias, from my stay in Hawaii. Yummy. Also, they had Monoi all over the place, every drug store and health food store had bottles of the stuff, all the different scents(I'm pretty sure the scents were sythetic though). Much aloha, --------------------------------- Want to start your own business? Learn how on Small Business.

Hi Ayala: I'm trying to think of something that would give the heady, narcotic, indole of tuberose and sambac a boost in this. Can't think of anything at this time. More diffusiveness, too. That skin-crawly,suffocating bit, too, lol. Love gardenia, in small doses, and would love to create a doppelganger.
