Only 2 m & ms?

Stasia,

That's a very good thought on how to beat impulse snacking. I've been

taking a nibble of a (yummy, frosted sugar) cookie I have in my

freezer or two M & Ms when I get the 10 pm sugar pangs, and leaving it

at that, but I might whip up some BFL-approved dessert or sugar-free

Jello for that instead. I don't know if I can wait 20 minutes,

though! I usually have to remove myself from the vicinity of the

kitchen. Hehe.

This works great with my kids and might work for cravings as well.

When my son wants " more " of something that he doesn't really need I

tell him to wait 20 minutes.

When my son wants " more " of something that he doesn't really need I

tell him to wait 20 minutes. That is the time it takes for the brain

to realize you've eaten. Usually after that time passes he either

forgets about wanting it or the hunger abates. This will also apply

to the cravings for something bad. Wait and see if you still want it

in 20 minutes. If you still do, then just have a small amount of

something BFL authorized instead. If you're truly hungry your

stomach won't care if it is bad or good and you'll be doing yourself

a huge favor in the process. It only takes a tiny amount of food to

take the edge off.

Yes, only two. Most of the time, I'm not hungry when I get a craving.

I just want to taste a sugar zap. If I have just two, I satisfy the

sugar craving, but I don't have to count the day as a nutritional

failure.

Some sources also recommend taking a nibble of something opposite of

what you are craving...so next time I may try a bite of something

salty when I get the M & M urge.

By the way, Kay, when are you starting your BFL program? This coming

Monday? If you have any questions while getting through the book,

just ask away. :)

If you are satisfied with 2 m & ms you might as well get some of

those Rivets things that talks about and have a couple of

those instead. At least then you won't be eating bad food and you'll

still satisfy the sweet craving.
