Guest guest
Hi - Per Walter Crinnion: The usual dose for heavy metal provocation testing is 30 mg DMSA per kg body weight with a max dose of 2100 mg. Thorne makes encapsulated DMSA (called Captomer). There are other companies (maybe Vital??), but I've only used Thorne. Make sure no fish is consumed one week before testing (may skew Hg levels). Take dose of DMSA as above on empty stomach and bladder. Collect all urine for 6 hours. Patient can eat one hour after taking DMSA. Of course, be sure your patient has normal kidney and liver function before doing any provocation testing. Also ask about any possibility of sensitivity to sulfur compounds (rxns to garlic/onions/sulfites) prior to testing.
