Guest guest
Would like to hear what other docs have to say about this movie when you see it; especially the people who don’t write in much. I recommend the new documentary, “Food, Inc.” http://www.foodincmovie.com/ It is a well balanced movie showing the terrible state of our food. It isn’t an anti-meat screed. It isn’t an anti-business screed. It doesn’t beat up on Republicans or Democrats in Washington (because they are all complicit). It documents some terrible trends in the food industry. One trend is explained in depth in Pollan’s book “the Omnivore’s Dilemma”. He maps out how the federal government tried to improve on the market by manipulating corn prices. Farmers were protected from loss which prevented the natural migration to other crops. Combined with great herbicides, fertilizers, and genetically engineered seeds, production skyrocketed. Now corn has taken over the food industry (along with soybeans). It offers some great solutions which are business, environment and food friendly. It will be out on DVD in November but run, don’t walk to see it in one theater in Portland. It is currently playing at a really cool theater in Portland called the Living Room Theater. http://www.livingroomtheaters.com/ You order (processed) food and (corn syrup laden) drinks and take them into the theater which has nice chairs with drink holders, etc. I am going to badger Lars Larsen and Taft to see it. If they can defend Monsanto after seeing this, they will lose all credibility. E. Abrahamson, D.C.
