This story was in the news near my home town. They showed pictures in the

original broadcast but I'm not sure if you can click that link in this e-mail or

not but the website is www.wowt.com .

Here it is:

Moldy Home Faces Cleaning

Moldy Home Renovation

Officials promises no health problems

A vacant house filled with mold will get an extreme makeover instead of being

torn down.

After a 6 On Your Side investigation last week, city inspectors posted

" danger " signs on the $200,000 home. Now they say the house will be salvaged

with no health risk.

if (self['plpm'] & plpm['Mid-Story Ad']) document.write('');if (self['plpm'] &

plpm['Mid-Story Ad']){ document.write(plpm['Mid-Story Ad']);} else {

if(self['plurp'] & plurp['97']){} else {document.write(''); } }if (self['plpm']

& plpm['Mid-Story Ad']) document.write(''); The mold-covered interior of

the home has neighbors concerned that cleanup might cause spores to drift their

way.

Britteny Ferrin says, " It's a huge health risk. I don't know how you fix it.

You tear the whole house down or what? "

The experts from Air Quality Services say the walls and floors can be stripped

without a health risk to neighbors.

Air Quality's Steve Hudson says, " Once you get in the outside, it's so diluted

the little bit of mold that may escape into the air is being diluted by the

fresh air outside. "

City code inspectors have posted a " danger " sign to keep out anyone without

permission or breathing protection but that doesn't mean the two-year-old home

has to be demolished.

Chief Code Inspector Denker says, " The mold is all over but it's only

affecting the cosmetic issues of the house. It looks like, structurally, the

house is fine. "

The homeowner filed bankruptcy and walked away but his mortgage company is

making a move to take possession with plans to make the house livable again.

Officials are offering assurances to potential buyers. Air samples will be

taken after the interior is stripped clean and buyers should get that report in

the disclosure papers.

Jon Fannon, with Environmental Services says, " They should feel confident that

they can buy that house and sleep easy at night. "

The president of Saxon Mortgage says he was not aware of the severe mold

problem in the home until our 6 On Your Side report. Dill tells us his

company has sent a cleanup expert into the home to assess damage and file

insurance claims. Remodeling can begin as soon as possible.

The Texas-based lender says he regrets that the condition of the property has

created concern among neighbors.

It does not require a majority to prevail,

but rather an irate, tireless minority

keen to set brush fires in people's minds.
