Listserv,

I was wondering how many of you own Amrex equiptment? They make combo US EMS machines. I've owned one for about 10 yrs. The last 2-3 yrs the local repair office told our office that they could no longer repair any Amrex equipment. The reason they gave is that Amrex has a monopoly on the repair of their own machines and it disqualifies any others from servicing them. So I had to package my machine up and mail it to Carson, California. There are NO service stations closer. ANd there's only ONE person working in that department! I did that last yr. This yr the same machine suddenly began making loud emergency type intermittent sounds and the entire machine shut off. I packed it up again and sent it back, only to find that Amrex has installed an "Automatic one yr shut off chip" in it. They told my office manager, it was to ensure that every machine is serviced once a yr.

This was done in spite of the fact that the machine appeared to be functioning perfectly well and had been calibrated and serviced with a new crystal in the head barely 11 months prior. My older combo ultrasound/sine/EMS only needs servicing about each 3-4 yrs.

Please email me off the list if you have similar problems with Amrex. I plan on calling them Monday to discuss this issue. BTW, yearly mandatory servicing costs $204 plus $50 shipping fee. So by the time you've 'serviced' it once a yr for 5-6 yrs, you could've just bought a new unit.

To all who may consider purchasing equip of this nature, you might ask if the machines have automatic shut offs installed.
