Hi Ed

I tried it, spent a lot of time training it but got frustrated

in having to go back and correct a lot of things and quit using it. Even

when I slowed down my speech there were a lot of errors, but then again might

have just been me. I know some people that use it and like it.

Subject: Dragon Naturally Speaking - anyone using and

recommending or not?

I am considering buying a version of this dictation software. Does

anyone have any experience or input to share? What version do you use or

recommend, if you do use it?

I have Dragon Version 10 Medical (grade) which is around $1000. Ed, I've dinked around with Dragon since 1994 when I was attempting to interface it with my chart note software in 1993 (Saboe Chart Note System) which at the time was wrapped within WordPerfect 5.1...which was DOS based (now windows based) . Trust me when I say save yourself a whole lot of grief and spend the money and get the Medical Grade Version or don't buy it at all. The Version 10 (there may be a 10.1 now) is about 98% accurate once you have gone through the training session-deal. But the off the shelf stuff at "Staples," "Office Max," etc., for cheap with hopes/notion of training it with your most frequently used medical terms will likely put you in the Salem Mental Hospital DON'T DO IT, either buy the Medical 10 version or forget it...

I use it everyday with the Medicfusion ....don't go througu all those screen of theirs as their categorizations of the testing doesn't match the way my mind words. But I do use it for history charting and qd charting...still put my exam findings on my exam sheet so we still have to send papers in but not nearly as much as before.

the dragon has saved me bookoo time and is fun to do. We have found that we need to put the microphone 'to sleep' between dictations so the medicfusion can march through it's paces ... it doesn't seem to totally cozy up to the dragon....but overall it is GREAT!

Yes, I do have to watch'/type with it as, from time to time, it comes up with some very strainge output from my dictation .... but the more I correct it, the more it get corrects....it does learn as you go along. Sometimes I need to slow down and repeat myself but it seems to get better and better.

Mine is a 10.0 (non-medical version) using with Medicfusion .... had about a 10 day learning curve but am dictating with ease now. It is learning the lingo as I go along .... slower ..... but cheaper and functional. I am also using it to dictate the two books I am working on. Plan to have both ready for outside editing by July 1st.

(this is me: keeping my fingers crossed at getting 'em done!)

Charlie,

Yours probably failed you because there are so many names for cows:

Heifer, cattle, cow, beeves, doggies, etc.

As in, “Patient is a ranch hand at the Big Muddy Ranch and was stomped on by a big dang cattle.”

You need “Cowhand Command Dictation software” which contains all the common medical terms and their ranch hand synonyms, colloquialisms, and slang.

Ed,

I use the professional version. I love it. There is a learning curve for both the computer and the speaker. Know what you will need in the way of computer hardware.
