Guest guest
I have a question for people who are using cholestyramine (CSM) and/or welchol to bind mycotoxins in their bodies. How long do you need to take it after your mold exposure? It seems to me that people who are hypersensitive might need to take it after new exposure, but taking it for longer than a few weeks after mold exposure might bring diminshed returns, as well as a depletion of fat-soluble nutrients. The health issues left after that time are probably permanent damage from environmental mycotoxins, and in all probability, not resolvable by cholestyramine.. I'd guess.. Also, *what do the doctors say*?
Guest guest
My doctors put me on CSM (which didn't work for me but I understand my reaction is very unusual) but my point is I was put on CSM 2 years AFTER my major mold exposure and probably had some continued mold exposure at another home up until about 4 months before starting on the CSM. My VCS scores (visual) have continued to worsen regardless of being on CSM and off CSM and doc says implies that I am still getting some sort of toxin in my body but could be autoimmune in nature or self-induced or something other than mold since other toxins can cause similar issues. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of LiveSimply Sent: Friday, April 28, 2006 1:31 PM Subject: [] Using cholestyramine to bind mycotoxins in the body I have a question for people who are using cholestyramine (CSM) and/or welchol to bind mycotoxins in their bodies. Guest guest
, It sounds to me that you are still being exposed to some sort of " toxin " , whether manmade or natural and that may be the reason you symptoms seemed to have gotten worse. No medication or protocol will be 100% effective if you are still taking " hits " . As far as the time after your exposure to starting CSM, I'm not sure how much a factor that is, for instance, I was out of the toxic enviornment for over 6 years before starting CSM and yes, various blood levels through several different doctors and labs still showed the " nasty buggers " still affecting me. I am very cautious where I go, wear a mask when I go out (because of my MCS and some mold situations)and have become very aware when my body tells me something is in the air. From my understanding CSM can have side effects for some people, but the normal " dieoff " effect is not one of them, it is not killing the toxins, just pulling it out of the bile. Guest guest
Here's what I think it is.. I think that during your period of mold exposure, a lot of toxins are stored in the body - as they are effecting your brain and other organs, they are also permeating you, being low molecular weight toxins, they permeate cells like water. Now that I am out of the mold palace, I am getting skinnier, which means that I am burning fat.. It seems that that is also releasing toxins from storage somewhere in my body. Plus, there are my old posessions, some of which I tried to clean but which I am clearly still reactive to. Here is my THEORY on how this works.. All of these toxins will probably be gradually diluted or metabolized in your body over time.. esp. if you take Cholestyramine. or something similar like welchol. However, its my theory that as you do that, you are also getting 'new' exposure from that purging of the toxins from the places your body has attempted to store them away, OUT OF YOUR BODY's mainstream.. (Don't forget, humans have evolved alongside of these toxins, and if we had niot evolved ways to deal with them we would have been extinct long ago.. Its only in the degree, each person's ability to detoxify x micrograms a day of toxin x, y or z, of them that we differ, genetically.. ) Its unavoidable, you need to realize that your body is like a sponge, in that sense, you have been living in a toxic mess for years, and the only way to minimize any new damage - even after you get out, might be to take a cocktail of neuroprotective agents, like piracetam/aniracetam, ALA, NAC, Vitamin C, E, selenium, B-complex, coenzyme Q10 and/or idebenone, zinc, aged garlic oil, etc. in addition to the cholestyramine.. Lots of ALA (or any others) gives me heartburn (I cant take more than 300 mg at once) so I often take it in smaller doses several times a day.. (this is a good idea anyway, to keep blood levels high)
