Guest guest
Letter to the Health Service Journal- let's see if they publish it. ------- Forwarded message follows ------- From: MEERABEAU ELIZABETH <me11@...> hsjfeedback@... Subject: Young professionals Date sent: Mon, 7 Jun 2004 18:40:56 GMT I thought that Terry Philpot's article on the new workforce needed for working with children was very useful, and agree with the need for qualifications which form a 'climbing frame' rather than a ladder, and the need for sideways progression rather than starting at the bottom again. Sadly, an opportunity for this has recently been missed, in health visiting. Consultation on the third part of the NMC register highlighted support for an additional direct entry route to health visiting which we think would have been attractive to older entrants, Sure Start workers, and others. But the NMC and Department of Health are firmly of the view that the only route can be through nursing. Given that we need all the nurses we produce for nursing, and that professional education is generally starting to be more flexible, I find that view very puzzling. ------- End of forwarded message ------- Professor Liz Meerabeau Head of the School of Health and Social Care University of Greenwich Avery Hill Campus Southwood Site Avery Hill Road London SE9 2UG 020 8331 9150 020 8331 8060 (fax) E.Meerabeau@...
