Guest guest
I was all excited about trying Diet Mt. Dew Code Red like drinks... and I just looked at it and realized, I bought REGULAR! Oh well. The kids will drink it... LOL : ) And I was wondering how diabetics could drink diet soda without repercussions if it caused an insulin spike? Thanks Joni, for a voice of reason! ; ) www.sistersunshine.com Re: Diet Soda (Lengthy Article) Dont believe everything you read, especially with no scientific backup. Most reliable articles list its source, studies, and related materials at the end. This article is like an urban legend that wont go away and circulates around weightloss websites. The real deal is that diet sodas (and artificial sweetners) may be a tool to help people lose weight - and we know that excess weight is a REAL health problem for millions. And what they said about fruit? OMG! FIBER! is the key to fatloss and fruits have lots of it - dont drop fruits because of the natural sugars in them! Be conscience of how quickly they add up in calories(mmmm fruit salad and fatfree coolwhip!) just remember, balance/moderation in healthy food choices, not eliminating them. Back to the articles claims - in medical studies, 'sweet taste' by artificial sweetners does NOT ellicit an insulin spike - nor have they ANY effect on blood sugar or insulin at all - and do not hinder, in fact assist, in loss of bodyfat by substituting for the carbs/calories of sugar. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi? cmd=Retrieve & db=PubMed & list_uids=9062523 & dopt=Abstract (Hope that link works - gremlins usually wrap it around an advertisement and cut off long URLs.) With the average American now consuming over 142 POUNDS of sugar in a year, I think its safe to say its the SUGAR nad not the sugar substituters that are keeping us fat! Read up on how sugars are hidden in just about everything, how to sort them out,how your body uses them or stores them, and what the alternative sweetners are: http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/sugar.html <<joni>> *knowledge is empowering yourself to stop the insanity of dieting
Guest guest
Um, yeah, what Joni said. :-) If diet sodas spiked insulin levels they wouldn't be safe for diabetics, and if they caused weight gain I'd be the size of a Home Depot. Guest guest
Thank you Joni, and Lydia, et al...Sometimes I think I read too much! There is so much conflicting information out there it's nice to be able to put the question to a group. I'll put this article in my " round " file. :-) Re: Diet Soda (Lengthy Article) Dont believe everything you read, especially with no scientific backup. Guest guest
Just a side note on the Mt. Dew flavors - I tried the Mt. Dew Baja this past weekend. I saw it at Taco Bell - it was blue - I had to try it, and it was pretty darn good. I don't know if they make a diet one, though. I just started back yesterday on the plan so if there's not a diet one I guess it will just have to wait until free day! :-) in WI Re: Diet Soda (Lengthy Article) Dont believe everything you read, especially with no scientific backup.
