Guest guest
Hi This is my first time using drainage with a cancer patient and I am a little worried I will get it wrong. The patient is very into research and the doctor is not supportive. I thought drainage was a better option than using nutritional supplements with an unsupportive doctor, but as there is no research I don't have anything to back it up for the patient. The one supplement I decided to use was melatonin 3mg because the patient also has insomnia and IBS. I did not want to go to high doses until I developed a more solid relationship with the patient. The patient is a 58 year old woman who had a complete hysterectomy (clean margins) in October for ovarian cancer stage 2C. She is currently on a regimen of Taxol and Carboplatin 1 dose every 21 days for 6-8 cycles. Her main side effect is fatigue and she has long term anxiety/trouble falling asleep due to mind going that is worsened. She takes valium to fall asleep prn - 4-7 times a week. She was sexually abused at 4-5 years old and had two brothers who had cancer as adults and eventually died. She puts on an air of having it all together and keeps going. So, I was trying to put together and this is my plan: BTG listen to your body (especially around resting) A-I diet (I am not sure if she will do this b/c she thinks her diet is great) fiber 25-30 grams daily eat brassica family vegies (cauliflower, kale, brocolli, etc.) eat flaxseed meal 1-2 Tbsp daily (to replace metamucell for constipation) drink green tea (to replace black tea - she won't stop) eat cabbage or cole slaw for glutamine UNDA 2, 20, 258 8 drops twice a day starting the day after chemo for 3 days; then switch to: UNDA 9, 30,228 8 drops twice a day until the day before the next chemo dose Any comments about the above regimen would be appreciated. I am not sure if I am correct about how to do the UNDAs in relation to chemo. I would have liked to add the following: curcumin, Biotone EFA, magnelevures, probiotics. But she is not used to taking supplements and not used to listening to her body, so I need to begin simply. Thank you and Have a wonderful holiday season Deanna Berman, ND, CM Ithaca, NY
