Guest guest
Hi - This is just my gut reaction; I am hardly an expert. However, I tend to shy away from extremes. The truth of the matter is, whole grains are very important for your overall nutrition and well being. So are legumes (which I believe count as carbs in BFL). I think balance is more important in the long run than exclusion. I also know many people try to not eat too much fruit because of the sugar content. One to two servings of fruit daily seems great. Six servings daily seems a bit much. I suppose you could try it and see how your body reacts. Guest guest
Hiya kickboxxr! after I read skwigg's lean out menu, I added way more fruits, a few veggies, and much less bread, and that got me off my plateau, BUT, no sense in going way out there, So my happy medium is one slice whole wheat bread or whole wheat tortilla with sandwich fixins post workout plus sometimes a fruit. I try and do it post workout, because that supposedly should be our high glycemic meal. It works for me. Also I eat oatmeal as a carb almost daily, because it really does " stick to your ribs " and fillls me up good, and it is just plain good for you, it's really is not an evil carb. Then, I've recently started eating yams more. I cut them into wedges, them spray them with pam or " mist " some olive oil, sprinkle some seasoning salt and pop them in the toaster oven for awhile, flipping them once after 15 minutes. I've been trying to get them crispy without burning them. They are really tasty! And really, yam are your friends as far as good carbs go. I'm very very very slowly figuring out what works and what doesn't for me, but what I HAVE learned is that one piece of bread sandwich is fine, and helps me keep my sanity and as an added, much needed benefit, makes me look like a " normal " eating person. I know I shouldn't care but its nice to not always be eating " special " meals. PS. I never used to eat apples, but lately, I have an apple a day. I'm not speaking scientifically here, but they seem like a superior fruit- fiber-wise and sugar wise. Goes nicely with a piece of lite string cheese for a small snack... -jojo > Here's a question as I eat my tangerine... > > WHAT IF i chose to only have fruit as my carb...is that good or bad? > I'm watching my breads, etc after reading Lean Down/Swell Up. Guest guest
<<WHAT IF i chose to only have fruit as my carb...is that good or bad? >> Altho fruits are good for you - its not just that they are considered better carbs nutrition wise, but also for their fiber content. There are two kinds of fiber, called 'soluable' and 'insoluable' and we need both in our bodies to be healthy. http://www.yale.edu/uhs/departments/nutrition/relatedInfo/fiber.pdf Also look at all the nutrients that vegetables have - this chart gives you a good idea of what you would be missing by eating fruit alone: http://www.drdecuypere.com/vegchart.htm <<joni>> *balance/harmony/moderation = long life*

Guest guest
I agree on the Panera, but holy $#!! have you seen their nutrition information? I've stopped getting anything from them except their Asian Sesame Chicken salad, and even then I only use 1/2 the dressing and pick out the chow mein noodles. I expected the high carbs, but the fat content of almost all of their sandwiches is enough to screw your BFL for an entire day, possibly two. I think one full panini sandwich with cheese and the works is the equivalent of 1/4 of a large pepperoni pizza. I was extremely depressed when I figured that out, but it did explain why I always felt so queasy after just half of a Tuscan Chicken sandwich: Tuscan Chicken (whole) Serving Size: 15 oz Sodium: 2140mg Calories: 950 Total Carbohydrate: 75g Total Fat: 57g Dietary Fiber: 6g Saturated Fat: 10g Sugars: 7g Cholesterol: 80mg Protein: 35g 950 calories? FIFTY-SEVEN grams of FAT? I don't know why I always thought the sandwiches at Panera were healthier than fast food burgers. They are pretty much the same when it comes down to it. Guest guest
Fruit as your only carb will leave you too hungry and prone to cheat or binge. Make sure to include stuff like the legumes like suggested, and oatmeal, a very slow acting, filling, non insulin spiking carb. You don't have to eat any breads. I rarely do unless it is one slice of whole wheat with my tuna or turkey. Sweet potatoes are very virtuous carbs also. Stasia
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply... Lately this is my daily menu: M1: myoplex lite shake M2: ff cottage cheese (1c) & 1/3 C Kashi Go lean crunch M3: salad w/ lots of veggies & a chicken breast (no carb) M4: Morning Star Farms veggie burger & peach or tangerine or grapes M5: grilled chicken and either boiled red tatos, baked beans (kidney) M6: lately i've been skipping M6 cuz after all the above, my numbers on FitDay.com have equalled what I am supposed to have so sometimes I have only water OR 4 spoonfulls of Cottage Cheese. > > Here's a question as I eat my tangerine... > > > > WHAT IF i chose to only have fruit as my carb...is that good or bad? > > I'm watching my breads, etc after reading Lean Down/Swell Up. Guest guest
YEP! and I learned a HARD lesson that bagles make my butt fat! So I have to limit myself to ONE per free day. Compared to the 1 per DAY I used to eat, i've made great improvements! > > And don't worry about me getting bored, I'll have a bagle on my > free > > day, since I am ADDICTED to Panera bread bagles! > > Haha!
