Guest guest
---Hi, I have been dignosed with cronic sinusitis and C. rinositis. by the time I was tested, only scareing of past possable fungal balls was found. Do you have a reaction to steriods shots? I had bad reactions to them and antibiotics. In , " toxsickniagara " <toxsickniagara@...> wrote: > > Has anyone been diagnosed with fungal sinusitis? Guest guest
I have a friend in New York who said there was a fungal ball just discovered in the sinuses of a friend of his. I didn't get the details yet on what treatment will be. If you are interested, I will ask. It sounds like you are getting good treatment though. > > Has anyone been diagnosed with fungal sinusitis? She has had 6 sinus surgeries - but NONE since she started using an antifungal nasal spray. Sounds like you have much mucus built up in your sinuses that may need to be " roto rootered " and then nasal spray so it doesn't come back. Also, sounds like you need to get away from what is causing the problem in the first place. Sharon

Guest guest
Sharon, what test is done to diagnose fungal sinusitis and what is the name of the nasal spray? My mother complains of many sinus problems. Maybe I could have her Dr. test her. Sue He suggested that I may need sinus surgery. Has anyone been diagnosed with this and/or been given this treatment? I would make an appointment with Dr. Sherris and Dr. Ponikau. They are ENT surgeons. They also have developed a spray that is effective to stave off the need for surgery. Guest guest
Like I said before, my daughter has had FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery) six times. The first one was really tough because they also did some work with the bone within the nose to try and open up the passages. She did not feel well for about two weeks. She was hospitalized for this one. The second one was better. She was only down for about three days. She was hospitalized for this one, too. (Although I think it was more because they thought I needed for that to happen, more than they did) She was little and I was scared. The third one was no big deal. In and out. Up and around the next day. The fourth one, we stopped at Mc's on the way home from the out patient surgery. The fifth one, was scary. This is when all the stuff with our house happened and she was having pulmonary and headache problems as well. We had never had a surgery before when something else was also going on. As much as I bitch about the leaders of UC Medical system being behind alot of the misinformation that is driving this issue, our personal UC physicians are wonderful men. They got her in for surgery very quickly because they wanted to stop it from going into her lungs. The sixth one was not done by our UC ENT. Change in insurance. The guy botched the job and took out a turbinate. He was not used to dealing with CF patients. She was bleeding alot and was in much pain. She ended up in the hospital at UCSD where the CF Center and our doctors are. Ever since she started using the nasal spray, there has been no need for surgery. So there you have it. The surgery can be nothing or it can be much. The key is to go to a surgeon with a strong background in FESS. Sharon
Guest guest
I am way overdue on my post, I have been in California at my Grandads funeral but I just read this and it hit home like a bat in the head. I have had sinus problems for the last 10 years, I went through every possible test there is (Except for fungus) and went through surgery after about six years. I am not a doctor but I know personally and from many others I have spoken with that the surgery was a nightmare and not only did not help it seemed to make things worse. this trip from Alabama to Cali. seemed to play havoc with all my problems. I have not been tested for lung or sinus fungus yet and intend to do so in my next Dr. visit due to the black stuff I cough up and constant sinus probs which were at least exacerbated with my exposure to asp. and stacky. High levels at that. I am Leary of recommending surgery but maybe if the surgery is specifically for the mold this might be a godsend for you I am not sure? But I suggest if it is in your sinus's maybe a lung check would be in order as well. Please keep me informed, due to my situation I am very interested also. Guest guest
A couple of weeks ago I did a survey of PubMed articles on the topic. I thought I posted the links here. The gist of what I found is that most doctors are taking their same old approach of surgery and steroids and antibiotics (decades of this type treatment) and using it for the fungal problem. Many people here can tell you that setriods are one of the last things a person sufffering from fungal disorders should be taking esp if there are alternatives. Mayo Clinic discovered this and published on it in 1999, they treated patients with a combo of oral or local (nose spray) antifungals. Mine is a direct result of mold in my home (aspergillus, etc) and I became infected and re- infected. You can become reinfected if you go back into the environment. My doctor believes in a long term treatment with low dose oral antifungals ( note the " low " ) along with allergy desensitization. It is working for me so far. I think there is more to my issues with mold than allergy or infection, but it is a good start for me. But not much works very well if you continue exposing yourself to a toxic environment. There are people that use a " neti pot " to irrigate the sinus, and they are found in health food stores or coops. My MIL uses a waterpik for teeth that has a special fitting for sinus irrigation. It usually keeps her sinuses open. I guess the standard ENT doc thinks that surgery to ream it out, then antibiotics and steriods to get rid of the rest of the infection/inflammation, then using irrigation for the rest of your life. One of the problems many have is from the fungal infection migrating around like it likes to do- mine went from my sinuses to my gut, and wreaked havok there over time until I was close to the END. I favor my antifungals, and get nervous when I start to run out. They have been a lifesaver for me, literally. --- In , " toxsickniagara " <toxsickniagara@...> wrote: > > Has anyone been diagnosed with fungal sinusitis?
