Mara,

I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to that either. They have been good

about responding to my e-mails, so maybe they'll get back with soon.

Does the protein from the Protein Factory have aspartame in it? I tried

a bunch of samples from Vitalady.com (you can order individual samples

to find the ones you like) and found about 3 that were okay. However,

I won't use artificial sweetners (sweet and low or equal) so I am stuck

with fewer options (mostly stevia). Maybe your powder would be an option.

Thanks for the info,

Mara

I am not sure but I e.mailed them this morning to see if they had nutrition

information so I'll let you know.

Mara,

I just checked the web site and this is one thing it said:

Our proteins are pure, without any added ingredients such as sweeteners,

flavorings, and confectionery ingredients.

That would lead me to believe they do not add anything. The one that I

ordered (which told me to order I should say) says it is 95% protein

and is virtually fat free (I think it said it is 1% fat). I would still

like to know the percentage of sugar (natural I assume) and calories if they

have it. If they get back to me I'll still let you know.

Dear Mara, I checked out that site and you have the option of adding

any sweetner you choose or have none at all although they don't

recommend that, their choice is Splenda, but they do have stevia also.

Check it out were you design your own blend.

Hope that helps.

I once had a doctor " prescribe " protein powder to me to help put on weight

(I have never been able to keep on weight). At the time I was 22, and a

wopping 90 lbs. It made me lose weight.... I have touched it in a long time.

I found that REAL healthy food helps me keep the weight on, and recently I

have discovered that raw foods actually help me put weight on. Just taking

out grains, and adding raw produce, I am now weighing in at 112, at the age

of 34, with three kids... I can't wait to get raw dairy... I think a

substantial amount of raw fat (cream, butter, and whole milk) will help

bring that up a few more pounds. I have been trying to get up to 115 or 120

for about 13 years...so far I have only hit that weight in pregnancy (lol).

Anyways, for muscle growth, I would be eating meat... as raw as you can

stand it, raw eggs (they are great in shakes), and lots of raw fat to keep

your body lubricated (inside) and for the extra energy you use.

I would conjecture that if you notice more muscle growth in one day than you

normally notice in one day, we are entirely operating on placebo effect.

Back when I used to use this stuff, I gravitated towards Goatein -

expensive, but, I figured I'd probably be doing the least harm by using it.

I've since stopped doing sports supplements and noticed no difference at all

in my progress (of course, making sure I get enough high quality protein in

my diet). I took this as a sign that, while for strength purposes, protein

powder is better than inadequate protein, you'd be better off in the long

run by eating real food.

Hey,

I can't answer for Sally but to me de-natured means processed and out

of its natural context. You do have a point here. Whey protein

poweder is much better than soy isolate or other veggie isolates. But

i think adding the powder to kefir helps. Who knows about the milk

quality, however.

cheers,

I use a Weight loss drink mix called Slimstyles. It is a Whey

protien supplement with something called PGX.

* Whey is the watery part of milk and contains the protein lactalbumin.

Lactalbumin is a small protein, but still has allergic potential. Are you able

to consume any dairy products? Does the Slimstyles label say whether the whey

proteins have been hydrolyzed, or what PGX is?

I still have some bloating after ingesting this product, but it is by

far the best thing my body will tolerate and not cause me severe

fatigue and I will stay full for about 4 hours.

I have tried food eliminations for a couple of years and no matter

what solid foods I eat I have reactions to. I believe my worst

reactions comes from my body actually having to digest food. I take

digestive enzymes to help me some. During digestion my gut is very

loud with grinding and churning.

That is interesting about the protien.

There is a lot of evidence that a high protein diet protects against

some of the negative effects of some mycotoxins. Whey protein is one

of the highest quality proteins.

Just another data point..

Sally Fallon's tape said all protein powders, and especially whey

powders, are dangerous in that they are extruded and thus have the

protein molecules broken apart, which is neurotoxic, and also the

resulting tiny particles have a mass to outer layer ration that causes

the only type of bad cholesterol there is due to the stickiness that

happens. Whey is so much more fragile than other proteins that they are

all the more dangerous.

Does anyone know of powders that are simply dried proteins that are

perhaps then broken up or some process that's not so dangerous?

Also, keep in mind the fact that too much protein without the fat is

dangerous and is another reason why dried cereals are bad and

especially why organic cereals found in health food stores are even

worse due to their higher protein concentration.

I think I would check with Mercola on his

drink because I doubt he would advocate it being extruded. I also have been drinking a protein drink

from Lepti Trim that is only whey from colostrum first milking. It is not extruded it is dried. I have not said much about it because I have

only been drinking it for a week or so and I drink it for the Leptin for weight

control. I did check into this product

pretty thoroughly and it appears to be pretty good.

I've tried raw eggs. I don't know how familiar you are with Mercola's

website, but he talks about the right type of diet for your body. (Protein

type, carb type, or mixed.) Anyways, on the questionare I came out as a

protein type, and supposedly we don't do as well on eggs, and I always

wondered why I didn't like them better. Also explained why I like the dark

meat and my wife likes the white meat. (FWIW the dark color is from iron.)

MY wife and son love white meat, I eat it and find it devoid of flavor and

quite dry when they call it juicy and flavor full.

Well, actually it was from one of the people responding to something on this website. He is a Chiropractor and under his name he had some websites so I checked them out. Then I contacted him and then went to the website. It is made by Immune Tree and I had checked into the colostrum over a year ago because they have just about the best colostrum on the market. So, I got the info and I have started on it. I have also in the past read two books on leptin which is the hormone that was discovered in the early 90's that helps our bodies to tell us when we are full, etc. It is in the adipose tissues and when you have been on the SAD diet you really screw up this hormone, especially if you the ab gene (the obese gene) which I believe as my whole family tends to be heavy. My brother is over 400 pounds and I am no where near that but still very overweight. I have struggled all my life with it and now can't even lose weight. Anyhow, I have lost over 11 inches in 1 week and I have not measured this week. So far no weight loss but my clothes are definitely bigger. Check out the wesite at www.yourwellnesscompany.com/aferris. I really think they have an exceptional product as far as the quality ingredients. I swore I would never try another diet but it works for me because I just put the shakes in my kefir or raw milk with coconut oil. I have not really changed what I eat as I am really committed to the traditional foods as I have seen so many good results in other areas-except weight loss.

Allyn

Re: Protein powders

I'm pretty interested in this product if it's not extruded. How did you discover that? Did you call the company? I would not only like it for myself but for my football playing grandson. On Jul 5, 2006, at 6:11 AM, ALLYN FERRIS wrote:

no, they don't but I know it works for some people. I have checked into the metabolic typing and the blood type. Both were way off for me but sometime people it is not. I think you have to make your own decision on that.
