Guest guest
I am a newbie and I am thinking of opening up a perfume oil shop. But, as I am sure a lot of you know, what in your mind can sometimes not be reality as quickly as you might want it. So please, some pointer on where do I start. I don't have any formal education but my nose has received a master degree. The idea came to me from going to the Fragance Shop-Perfumery on South Beach (Lincoln Road). Any advise, reality checks, suppliers, competitors that are doing well, anything. I want to just have a small shop, so anyone doing big things in this industry need not worry. I just want to do something, I enjoy.

They've been around for a long time. Most of their perfume oils are synths, but rather gentle ones, IIRC, and they do encourage folks to blend their own, correct? I'm hoping of the Perfumer's Apprentice sees your post and replies, as she has great experience in running such a shop. I'd advise getting a place with a reasonable rent, good foot traffic, checking yourself for stamina in retail, and checking out the competition (I don't think there is a lot in most cities.) As far as suppliers go, what do you want to carry - all naturals, some synths?
