I did come up with something two evenings ago using spikenard and litsea cubeba and clary sage that smelled...well, an awful lot like a New York City sidewalk in a summer rain during a garbage strike... :-) I am reminded of Tom Robbins of Jitterbug Perfume fame having written (cannot recall *where* I read this, but it was in one of his books, and I paraphrase:) that " East Coast rain smells like wet newspaper, but Seattle rain smells like minnow breath... " Alfred, traipsing about San Francisco today wearing his beard dressed with a fabulous sandalwood single (solid), and who has been dabbing his soon-to-be-infamous fragrance 'Geezer' on his wrists all afternoon... I've been lurking for a while, but this topic called me out! So... (animal tinctures aside) rain basically smells like ozone, right? If we all blend and wear lime and clary sage at the time, do you think we can solve any major world environmental problems? Janet

Seriously, there is a certain smell that I get before it rains, in fact there is a book by Walter Macken called 'Rain On The Wind' it is a beautiful book and the name of the book is based on that phenomenon. Being in the bog in connemara. There's not a single house or building as far as the eye can see, and the wind carries the pure smell of rain. It gives you enough time to cover the dry turf and throw a few more sods on the fire (the fire is for boiling the kettle for the tea and keep the midges away) before the rain breaks. But that smell is as pure as one can get I think. Lime and clary sage do it for me but I feel there is a note missing, I tried rosemary, fir needle...but they just seemed to dirty the smell not make it more pure... MMMH! I am thinking myrtle, I have some EO but I also have a heavy cold today! Anybody want to be my nose? I would try 1 clary sage, 2 lime, 1 myrtle, then 1 clary, 3 lime, 1 myrtle! Anybody want to have a go! Has anybody ever been to a Connemara bog and smelled the rain before it started? By the way has anybody ever smelled or tasted tea made in the bog? I am already suffering from scent withdrawals (reminising is a symptom) seen as my nose is out of order! Ruth SNIFF!
Guest guest
Ruth, Are you looking for the smell of the earth? Perhaps mitti attar is what you are looking for. Of course Indian earth may not smell like Irish earth but maybe it is a piece of your puzzle. Let us know if you find your note. > > > > Hi Janet! > > You came out of hiding to say that! Guest guest
> Does anybody else agree that lime > and clary sage smells like rain?... I'm not sure why this blend has captured my soul, but I can hardly wait to get out of work and go home to play with my EOs. Ruth, you painted a lovely word picture, and I can smell it in my head already. Thanks for the motivation. I've also just been to Amazon to pick up a couple of the Walter Macken books... (If I'm not smelling something, I'm probably reading it... and sometimes both!) And, Libby... thanks for the link, but we're ALL already in a " movement " and we're following Anya! Only thing is I am out of it. Will pick some up tomorrow. I hope my cold is better so I can try it out. Ruth
