Guest guest
I have been using a recumbent, stationary bike for my HIIT days for the past 4.5 weeks. Today I decided to get some fresh air and I went out at 7am and jogged my HIIT. It was hard and I was worn out when I finished. It has been at least 6 years since I went running. I was wondering if running/jogging is better than the bike? I definitely felt like it was a harder workout.
Guest guest
This is such a funny question...because I've done the exact opposite as you, ! I've been running on a treadmill for my HIIT for the past 2 months with occasional elliptical trainer days. This morning, though, I hopped on a recumbent bike for the first time since early June and OMG...my legs were burning! I didn't sweat as much or breathe as hard as I do when running, but my quads were worked harder than they usually are on cardio days. I think the leg muscles are worked in different ways by the different exercises, and being good at one doesn't necessarily mean you'll be kicking butt with the other. I swear, I could BARELY get my legs to push those pedals at 75 rpms at a lame level 7 for my high point this morning, and I'm used to running 8.5-9 mph on a treadmill for a 10! Running burns more immediate calories, but doing HIIT is supposed to increase your metabolism for several hours no matter what exercise you choose to do from what I've read. I'll just say right now that I prefer running at this time, just because my body has adapted to it and it's easier for me than cycling. I'm planning to do two days of running for cardio each week, and rotate through bike, jumprope, and elliptical for the third day just to keep myself from getting too comfortable. Guest guest
That's funny! Thanks for the info. I was trying to do it the HIIT way though. I would increase speed until I was running as fast as I could and then decrease it again to a fast walk. Hopefully that helped and was considered HIIT. Guest guest
> I was wondering if running/jogging is better than the bike? I definitely felt like it was a harder workout. I do think it is easier to get a better/harder workout in with running. Altho HIIT can be done on the bike. I have to use the bike most of the time with my PF so I just try to do the best I can and I'm still seeing results. I rotate with the stairstepper and step interval aerobics and usually feel more exhausted with those two than running. Colleen
