Guest guest
I LOVE the elliptical for HIIT. When I do it I do my warm up at a pretty good pace without using the arm thingies...then, like you, I'll adust the speed for each minute, in addition to going at a much faster pace and then adding the arm thingies...sorry, I don't know what to call them...and I think it's a great workout. I NEVER use the tread mill. I almost always use the elliptical and step-mill. I got treadmill burn out when I had one at home and I hate every second I stay on it. Oh, the other thing I do on the elliptical is change the direction my feet go, so about halfway through the HIIT I start pedaling backward... Good luck! > Hi everyone, > I just completed my HIIT on the elipitical machine this morning > instead of the treadmill. It's not like the treadmill where you can > adjust the speed. Guest guest
Hey , I swear by the eliptical trainer! I do the same thing, increase the resisitance however I also aim to keep my RPM's above a certain rate, generally 60-70. When I first started my RPM's were around 40-50 and as I became more fit I could push myself harder. Good Luck
Guest guest
Oh that's a good idea. Thanks . I never thought to check my RPMs. I'll definitely check it the next time I do cardio. > Hey , > I swear by the eliptical trainer! Guest guest
That's also a good idea! I don't usually use the machine with the " arm thingies " , but there is one in my gym. I usually go for th machine with no arm thingies and just pump my arms as I go. I'll try the other machine on Thursday! > > Hi everyone, > > I just completed my HIIT on the elipitical machine this morning > > instead of the treadmill. Guest guest
The elliptical is a godsend. When I was first accainted with it about 3 years ago, it was the most coolest comfortable thing. I usually rely only on it for my cardio, between that or the stepper. It burns so major calories and after I got more comfortable on it, I could do it at the gym and catch up on the news or read with good pace on the machine. The treadmill always hurt my knees and the bike tends to hurt my " tail " !!!! > Hi everyone, > I just completed my HIIT on the elipitical machine this morning > instead of the treadmill. Guest guest
I actually think the elliptical is harder than the treadmill, but that is just b/c I really like to run. I don't increase my resistance, but I do increase speed and will get anywhere from 92 - 100 rpm during my " 10 " . Everyone in the gym can hear me breathing hard and some will actually stare. Oh well. I'm pretty much spent when I am done w/the elliptical and think it is a fab workout. > > > Hi everyone, > > I just completed my HIIT on the elipitical machine this morning > > instead of the treadmill. Guest guest
My trainer must use a different method of calculating strides/rpm because I start my " 5 " at 150 and go up by 10 until I reach over 200 strides per minute for my " 10 " . That's probably equivalent to running around 8 or 9 miles per hour, maybe more, with my short little legs. What brand of elliptical do you use? My gym has the Precor EFX machines. Guest guest
Hi , I love the Elliptical. I have really bad knees that hate anything with impact, so the elliptical is my cardio weapon of choice. And you can adjust the speed....just go faster or slower depending on what level you are at. When I begin, I start out at around 150 strides per minute. I then increase my speed every minute by about 10 strides, so that around my level " 10 " , I'm over 200. I have actually gotten up to around 220, but got some funny looks in the gym!! It's a great workout for me because my knees don't hate me when I'm through. I also will go backwards and give a little squat down to really work the glutes and quads. I don't use the one with handles because I like to swing my arms freely as though I was running. I usually keep up a running pace and just increase my pace as my levels increase. My max heart rate will usually run around 170-175, but usually I stay around 150-160. I definitely feel it when I 'm done with my cardio and don't have the horrible pain in my joints like I do with the treadmill or in my rear like with the bike (those seats are too damn small for my big butt!!). Guest guest
There are two types of machines at my gym. I actually choose the machines I will use by their location. My gym is like 80% windows and the windows face a second building that has polished brass awnings (strange I know) the sunlight will bounce off these damn things and BAM I have a migraine right in the middle of my workout. So there are only 2 machines that are behind walls that I can use 2! that's it, both are 'life' machines (like 'life cycle' or 'Life step'). There are a different set that face a mirror, the mirror however faces the windows so I am not sure about the lighting dynamics, (I should just wear sunglasses), they are a different brand, people would kill to use them, they actually stand behind the person on the machine waiting for them to finish their work out (don't know if I could deal with that, eeeek performance anxiety!!) I will try those other machines next HIIT. Off that topic.... How are you doing ? How is school, your back etc. I just started my Masters program yesterday. I am so excited!!!
