Guest guest
04/13/2006 Wet Conditions Can Cause Mold http://www.keloland.com/News/NewsDetail5440.cfm?Id=0,47391 KELOLAND TV - Sioux Falls,SD While the rivers have subsided, last weeks heavy rains could still be causing issues in homes. This was the scene in many homes across KELOLAND last week. While most people were able to clean up the mess then, now is when more troubles could start to surface, especially if the whole house hasn't been dried. Jerry Berg of INTEK Cleaning and Restoration says, " By now, the carpet started to delaminate. The trim has started to curl because back of the trim is wet. The sheet rock is wet. " But it may not just be the visible problems homeowners should worry about. If they haven't done a thorough inspection, they may be surprised at what else could be damaged. Berg says, " The frame of the house is wet. The walls and ceilings are wet, not to the degree of everything that was close to the floor is wet, but certainly there's humidity throughout the home. " And that humidity can lead to another mess….mold. Berg says, " Any house, any environment with regular living conditions being in it is going to have enough dirt and debris that mold will grow in the carpet. " And that mold could cause allergy like symptoms, or even become toxic. Berg says whenever you have a damp spot in your home, find where the water came from, contact your insurance, and then get advice from a professional. Neisteadt sneisteadt@...
