Call Kurtis: Modular Mold

Kurtis Ming

Reporting

CBS 13 - Sacramento,CA

http://cbs13.com/seenon/local_story_103011741.html

(CBS 13) SACRAMENTO They moved it, and then it sat! It was a modular

house that turned into a haven for mold. After several months of

watching his news home turn into a petrie dish, the modular home

buyer asked for Kurtis' help.

It's on a plot of land in Yuba County where Greg White hopes to

retire. He owns the property, and bought the house from Custom

Manufactured Homes of Auburn to sit on it.

But turns out it wasn't so easy. The house was split into three

parts, but for whatever reason, only one made its way to Greg's land.

Nearly three months, from October until January, Greg says one piece

sat on his property. The other pieces sat in with only a

plastic tarp to screen out the wind.

" First they said it was the weather, the wind, they couldn't bring

it the day they brought the other piece, " he says.

Whatever the excuse, once they finally put the three pieces

together, the damage was already done. Mold on the walls, in the

pantry, above the furnace, everywhere the water had seeped in. Greg

still couldn't move in!

That is when he called Kurtis. Greg says he even told Custom

Manufactured Homes he spoke with CBS 13.

By the time Kurtis showed up, wouldn't you know it, a contractor was

out working on the home. New wood and tools now sit in the house.

But the mold is Greg's biggest concern.

" With the mold and everything in the future there's going to be

issues down the road. And if I want to sell the home I'll have to

disclose it, " he says.

Custom Manufactured Homes of Auburn wouldn't talk on camera, but

told us they were working to get rid of the mold, and would pay for

an inspection that holds a 5-year mold free guarantee. Greg White is

happy, but is holding off celebrating his retirement.
