Guest guest
Remember that your abs are just another muscle. I'm not sure why it is that we always seem to think of abs as being different from everything else, they're made of exactly the same stuff. Just like any other muscle you abs have to get the rest time between beatings if they're going to grow and strengthen. Since you can't spot reduce abs every day isn't really helping. ~Jena At 07:55 PM 8/5/2004, you wrote: >I have a question about working out the abs. Guest guest
On a five day workout split, I work abs every other day but NEVER on LBWO day. Abs are necessary stabilizers for squats, etc. That's why I don't do them on leg day. However, if you are in less than week 12, stick to what the book says to do. Guest guest
I was wondering... I've begun to rehearse daily for playing music... and my diaphragm gets sore by the time I'm done. Should I cut back on my rehearsals? Or will this NOT affect my abs? Gosh... I hope someone knows the answer to this one. It may be so musician/singer specific I might have to go somewhere else for a response? : | " Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas and information. Guest guest
, I was just skimming the EFL book this morning, and read what Bill said about working his abs. He is always asked if he works them more often, but he says no, he just works them in th LBWO and not more frequently. I had the same question, . I was thinking if I did them on all weight training days it would be better. According to him, that is wrong. Here is my question--will I sabotage myself if I do a Pilates class on non-weight training days? It works the core muscles, supposedly from the inside out, and not the quads, hamstrings, triceps, etc., like we do in the weight training routines. Pilates does work the abs and back...The thing is, the classes are only on my nonweight training days, and I hate to switch my schedule around. Oh whine, whine. Guest guest
Don't cut back on rehearsals. Between your BFL workouts and your music, you should have a nice, strong mid-section soon. --- Lydia <groups@...> wrote: > I was wondering... Guest guest
Hi there, if you're a wind player I can attest that it won't hurt you at all. In an 'earlier' life I studied at NEC and had to practice for hours on end, plus rehearsals, gigs, etc...I was also quite fit back then and was training (weights and cardio) at the Y next door every day as well. What I DID need to do when I first started school, however, was build the endurance I needed for so much playing-time. So, I used to do a lot of breathing exercises to limber up my diaphram before (and sometimes after, depending on how much time I had). If your a singer....... you'd be best to consult someone else since all the singers I met at school were terrified of working out due to any changes it might make in the way their voice would sit/resonate. Have fun rehearsing! Best, Diane Lydia <groups@...> wrote: I was wondering... I've begun to rehearse daily for playing music... and my diaphragm gets sore by the time I'm done. Guest guest
I'm a singer/songwriter, and I play guitar. I have increased my endurance a hundredfold by working out... and it's too bad those singers were so worried, because I've found that it ADDS a nice level of resonance to my voice, rather than detracting from it. I really feel empowered... and I'm nowhere NEAR the shape I want to be in (I'll second Seattle's " wanna be like Skwigg " statement... 'cept I don't wanna get kicked in the head, LOL) Thanks for responding! I guess I'll just keep on keeping on... so long as it's still working for me. So far so good! ~L " Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas and information. That's called doing your homework. Guest guest
You can either increase intensity by going slower or adding more weight each set. I usually do one or the other depending on the exercise. Like it's easy to move the pin on the weight stack for cable crunches, but on bicycle crunches it makes more sense to slow them down. RE: Ab Workout Thanks for the example below and the link to the Ab Bootcamp Routine. I was trying to figure out how it would work with more intensity and what you are saying makes sense. Do you increase the weight on each set of reps as well or just the intensity level? Guest guest
It's fun! You see pretty colors and then two of everything. LOL RE: Ab Workout I have a really hard time imagining myself ever getting the thrill she does from getting kicked in the head. Guest guest
I don't think she really enjoys/enjoyed that aspect... the big point is learning how NOT to get slammed, right? I gotta hand it to her, though... she's tough as nails! " Nothing is more powerful for your future than being a gatherer of good ideas and information. That's called doing your homework.
