Guest guest
Dang Maggie!!! You are off the chain. I have a 2 year old and I have a habit of going to Mcs every single day. It is expensive. My gym membership is $39.99+ tax a month. I attend LA Fitness GYM in Winter Park/Casselberry. Plus they have a kids club in there and I can take my son in there. Guest guest
Thanks for the info Maggie. I wanted to see that Supersize me movie. They had it playing at the Enzian. I like LA Fitness, though. I think I will keep the membership, but lay low on the fast food b/c I know it's not good for my son either. My husband eats out a LOT. Guest guest
Okay, I am a total penny-pinching, budget-making, number-crunching tightwad, so here's my take on doing BFL on a budget. Before BFL: My grocery budget before I started BFL was $75 a MONTH. (I'm single, no kids, cook most of my meals, and live with just two kitties. Their food budget is $12/month :: grins : I allotted only $25 per month for dining out, mostly for a once a week $5.50 lunch special at my favorite Chinese restaurant that included an entree, rice, and soup. I would split this into three meals--half entree/rice, half entree/rice, and soup. My base groceries included meats (usually chicken), fresh and frozen veggies, cereal, oatmeal, pasta and sauce, rice, eggs, and nonfat dry milk all bought in bulk and on sale if possible. I would also splurge on 3 boxes of Luna bars each month for around $15 each from Drugstore.com, for a total of around $150 each month on food. Divided by 30 days, that comes out to around $5/day. (Told you I was a tightwad.) I was already eating semi-BFL style because I'd read the book but wasn't doing the workouts--reasonable portions five times a day = 3 whole food meals + 2 Luna bars a day. On BFL: I admit that in the first month of BFL, my grocery bill skyrocketed because I was basically restocking my kitchen with a new set of healthy staples. Lots of spices that most people already have but are not part of an Asian kitchen, sugar-free sweeteners and syrups, 5lb containers of protein powder, two boxes of Balance bars (totally gross...never again) and even a carton of chocolate soy protein shake. And I was eating a lot more often...so I was pretty shocked at how much I was spending. Now that the initial stocking of staples is done, though, here's my new monthly food budget: $22.50 / month - One 5 lb container of Myopro protein powder (77 servings, and I use it in about two meals a day--muffin and shake--so one container will last about a month) $20-$25 / week on regular groceries like meat, veggies, fruits, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, and cottage cheese $0-$15 / month on dining out ===================== $162.50 / month total or $5.42/ day So I am paying a bit more to be on BFL than I was before because I was pretty frugal to start with and rarely ate out, but not THAT much more. I am also paying $29.95/month for my membership at Gold's, but in theory I could get away with using my apartment complex fitness room for cardio (bikes, treadmills, and elliptical) and some weight workouts on their cable machines and my weight bench set (www.danskinfitness.com, $87 for an incline/decline bench, barbell, 2 dumbbells, eight 1 lb weight plates, four 3 lb weight plates, and two 5 lb weight plates). I like the atmosphere at a real gym though, because they also have a wider range of weights than I do at home, mirrors for checking form, and lots of classes for the times when I want to mix things up a bit. I am also a competitive wench and enjoy running really fast on a treadmill in front of the slow walkers. . My total cost for BFL per month: $162.50 Food $ 29.95 Gym ============ $192.45 Total / 30 days = $6.42/ day I don't think this is too unreasonable or expensive, considering that many people can spend $200/ month on just dining out! Guest guest
Wow. I feel really lucky, following this thread... I paid $2500 twenty years ago to join Scandinavian, which was taken over by Bally's. My husband and I just rejoined for $198 for the first year, and $9/month each after the first year... and added our son on for another $199 for the first year, then $12/month after the first year. That's with all the privileges my original membership had... including 2 hours/day of free babysitting! (But there aren't any vid. Monitors like at Gold's!) I do love that they have the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and Olympic-size swimming pool... although here in Florida I like to swim in the ocean from May-October... when the water's warmer. If I had not made that investment 20 years ago, I could probably not afford to join a gym at all! Just for comparative purposes, I pay $40/month for me and hubby to go to Gold's in Seattle. There was a new-member promo (there almost always is) where we basically paid nothing to join, and I'm getting the corporate rate negotiated by my employer. I'm paying $25/month for me (employee rate) and $15/month for him (employee's spouse rate). I believe we can go to any of three or four Gold's in the Seattle area, but I need to check on that. They made some changes since we joined. I might only have access to the one nearest our house. It has a kiddie room, but no monitors. There's no women's area, but the dumbbells go up in 2.5-lb. increments from 3 lbs. up through 40 lbs., and then in 5-lb. increments from 40 to over 100 lbs. Not sure how high up the DBs go. I'll have to note that next time I'm there. They may go up to 135 lbs.

Guest guest
You're probably right. I will try to give the stuff another chance. ) I mix cottage cheese with yoghurt all the time. I also add it to a jacket potato/mashed potato or pumpkin and it tastes just like sour cream. I use to 'think' that I hated it but it was more the look of it. If you can get past the lumps then it really does not taste too bad. Cottage cheese is going to be my savour I think.
