My deepest sympathies to Liz and her family. One of my cats died this spring -- on my husband's birthday -- during surgery. She was an abused, abandoned cat we rescued. It took a long time to win her over. I only regret not having had her from kittenhood. She deserved a better life than she had before she came to us. My Web site designer lost 3 pets in six months, plus another one 3 months before it. It was all bad timing due to the age of the animals, but it was still brutal. Guest guest
Thank You Anya, and Everyone, It does feel quite different here now. We have indeed lost three family members (furry kitty kind) in the past couple of months. Two in one week. They were older and we knew that this time would come. I am sure that this odd feeling of change will be in the air for some time. But all in all I am glad that they all had good long lives, and that we got to enjoy their company for so long. We do get so very attached to our animal buddies, I remember when I was a little girl of aboout 5 or 6 and I had a cat called Ginger. I loved her so much. One day she ran out on the road and was killed by a car. I was broken hearted. My Mother buried her in the back yard and told me that she was going to go to heaven. I was happy then but I had to come back and check every day! I swear, it's true! I would go and dig up the loose soil only to find her body still there. My Mother nearly died of a heart attack when she discovered what I had been doing. I went out the next day to check as usual and she was " gone to heaven " !!! My good Mother must have moved the body to a secret location after I had gone to bed!!! Bless her heart! Years later I had another cat who looked just like Ginger, I called him Rhubarb...he was a dote! Ruth

Ruth..must be the Irish in us..not afraid of death, or perhaps more aptly, not recognizing it... I also have a dead cat in childhood story -- but I didn't even know this cat. I was around three, and in my adventures roaming the alleys (yes, hard to control, even then ;-) I carried a dead cat home, asking my mother to " make it better " . If anyone can imagine a 1950's middle class repressed woman trying to hide nearly having a heart attack, well, that was her, as she describes the incident, I have no memory of it.
