Hi,

I did choose the EFL option. The recipes seem different to me, but I

cannot swear there is no overlap. So far I've made... Crab and Avocado

Salad, a Cappucino Shake, Cottage Cheese and Fruit, Potato and Tuna Salad,

and Yogurt and Fruit. Dinner tonight is Seared Tuna with Pico de Gallo

with very berry chocolate pudding for dessert.

Part of my whole deal lately is lacking the motivation to go through my

literally dozens of cookbooks, pick something, buy the food and make it.

This means that my EFL book has not gotten a lot of attention. I also

don't eat meat, so I need to either modify or ignore many of Bill's

recipes.

Hi Helene,

I don't know. Yesterday was my first day, and I was just focused on

getting together my stuff for the next few days. I haven't had an

opportunity to play around with it much.

Hi other !

I excluded red meat, pork and poultry. It seems to me one of those was

grayed out, as a not *major* source. That left me seafood, soy, eggs and

dairy. I am actually considering switching proteins on alternating weeks,

planning to use tofu and other meat substitutes in some of their meat

recipes.

Good luck with your challenge! The exercise is an important component

(although I might disagree with that on a sleepy morning). When I have

been able to work both the food and the exercise together in the past, I

have been stunned at a) how much energy I have, B) how much

psychologically easier it is (for me anyway) to stay on track, and c) how

successful I have been! (My personal demon is letting life and " stuff "

thrown me off track, which breaks my whole successful mindset and sends me

right down the tubes.)

I use Keyoe's Diet and Exercise Assistant software for my Palm device

to track food/caloric intake and general exercise. The food database

is huge and can be customized with new foods just like Fitday. Based

on your entered weight loss goal and time frame, it will tell you how

much of a deficit you need each day to reach your goal by your end

date, and does all the calculations for you as you enter each thing

you eat and each activity you perform. It's $19.95 from Handango.com,

and there's a desktop companion program that let's you sync up your

database and entries for an additional $9.95. The free demo trial

version won't let you enter more than one exercise per day or more

than one instance of a particular food per day, but is otherwise fully

functional.

I also use BodyAdvance BFL tracking software (just $12.95 for either

the desktop or Palm versions with lifetime free upgrades) to log my

weight training weights and cardio levels. It also includes a

customizable meal planner that will let you plan out your 6 daily

meals and store recipes and nutrition information. It's also

available through handango.com with a 30 day free trial. The desktop

version is free in uncrippled nagware mode as long as you don't mind a

little nag screen asking you to register when you start it up.

Yep, you can hotsync the desktop and Palm versions to sync up your

data. I'm still trying out the demo of the desktop in nagware mode,

but I think it will make entering meal items a LOT easier.

I haven't used the meal planning part of BodyAdvance either, mostly

because it takes forever to enter in new meals on my little Visor,

even with my Targus keyboard. The other program I use is a lot

quicker for stuff like food thanks to the Fitday-like food database.

There's a food master list where you enter all of your typical meals

with calories, carb, protein, and fat count, as well as a notes window

where you can input the whole recipe if you want. To make things

easier, there are 20 quicklist dropdown menu slots per meal time where

you can enter your most frequently eaten meals, just like the exercise

quicklists. :)

I use the BodyAdvance as well and love it. You can find it at

www.palmgear.com as well as the site that Maggie mentioned. It's a

great way to keep track of your workouts without lugging a huge

notebook or pieces of paper to the gym. A simple touch to the screen

to log your exertion level and amount of weight is much easier (for me

anyway) than having to write everything down with a pen or pencil. I

downloaded it over a year ago and it's come in really handy. I don't

use the other feature of it regarding the nutrition/meal part, but

that's probably because I haven't sat down and messed around with it

very much. I didn't realize that they had a Desktop version...might

have to go check that out. Can you fill things in on your Desktop

version and then HotSync it to the version on the Palm?
