Guest guest
Dear Senate, Today's BMJ [bMJ 2003;327:1428-1430 (20 December)] has an excellent article about Ethel Margaret Burnside, Hertfordshire's " chief health visitor and lady inspector of midwives " in 1911. If there is such a thing as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, this one, determined and imaginative woman demonstrates what a SCPHN can accomplish. , I hope you do not have to wait 90 years for recognition of your Radio 4 efforts! Happy holidays, Woody. Guest guest
Thanks Woody. She must be turning in her grave at the thought of that ghastly and meaningless new nursing title, and the corruption of health visiting values and skills that goes with it! best wishes Woody Caan wrote: Dear Senate, Today's BMJ [bMJ 2003;327:1428-1430 (20 December)] has an excellent article about Ethel Margaret Burnside, Hertfordshire's "chief health visitor and lady inspector of midwives" in 1911. Guest guest
But in the interests of plain English, clarity of purpose and role, why do we need to change our title - we visit people wherever they are (individuals, families, groups, communities, people living in adverse circumstances, especially needy people etc - we seek them out) to promote health - 'health visitor' - simple, short, straight-to-the-point. I just don't understand the logic behind seeking to rename us. Guest guest
I agree , and follow with interest the failing fortunes of all the firms who went in for the great renaming when it was fashionable (like 'My Travel,' previously Airtours, now £billions in debt). Of even more importance, is the determination to remove our knowledge base and replace it with a different one, which is what will happen if the competences floated at consultation are used for the 'third part' of the register. They are not about health visiting and registrants who have achieved those competences will not be fit to practice as health visitors, but will be (on the register) be indistinguishable from those who are). What a mess! lowenhoff wrote: But in the interests of plain English, clarity of purpose and role, why do we need to change our title - we visit people wherever they are (individuals, families, groups, communities, people living in adverse circumstances, especially needy people etc - we seek them out) to promote health - 'health visitor' - simple, short, straight-to-the-point.
