I had a 12 yro air handler and had the fiberboard insulation and

that is what I have been told harbors molds and bacteria. Not sure

exactly what the new one I had installed is about but it isn't

fiberboard and hvac guy said around outside but I'm not all that

knowledgeable about hvac but sure had to learn about them the hard

way. My air handler was Gross and plenum full of mold and probably

bacterias too and the air ducts and insualtion under house and floor

joist and still wondering about the walls and under carpet and lino

and maybe attic.

Thing is if an hvac man comes and does yearly maintenance, they

don't look at the plenum where all the air ducts hook up to under my

house. They would have to unseal an air duct to look inside since

my new air ducts are sealed as building codes now require. I'm not

sure exactly what part they service and maintain....Just a peek at

my only 2 year old coil that was taken out was BLACK inside and I

assume that was MOLD and $800 down to the junkyard! The outside

part unit has not been replaced yet and will come next and hope not

too soon.

Hey, lottery started here today in NC so I hope I WIN!!!:P Oh, I

cooked tonight and ate mashed potatoes, green beans and a chicken

breast! :) If I was rich, could hire a chef and maybe I'd eat good

everyday!!:o) Rhonda

The plenum, which I only learned this name thru all this crap, is a

metal box with my air handler and all the ducts hook up to it. Some

call it the air exchanger. I do think the drip pan was inside or

something like that from what the hvac guy said. Not sure where it

is on the new one. I also had faulty drip line. What more could I

ask for! Rhonda

waste to me.

> I don't know about HVAC but in an aquarium there is a thing

called a plenium. This is an area of un disturbed water under the

rock that its sole purpose is to grom bacterias to help level tank

chemical. Sounds kind of scary that something like that would be in

the HVAC. Sounds like the drip tray under the fridge that no one

checks till its spills on the floor... YUCK
